I'm on the hunt locally for a 1978 twinshock DS80 headlight and brackets and a seat, a later headlight numberplate assy may also be of interest but preference given to the early type. While I'm babbling on I wouldn't mind a complete bottom end or crankcase set from any DS80 up to 2000. Matter of fact, I be interested in anything that maybe on offer 'excepting wheels, chassis, exhaust, carb, ignition, forks and triples.' The stock DS items just mentioned are of no use for my project as these items have now been replaced with early RM80 bits. I'd prefer to buy locally rather than buy from the US as shipping on anything except the headlight would be a little ineffective cost wise ;) message me here or email [email protected] if you have something kicking around that maybe of interest. Many thanks in advance, Doc

Doc, are you sure there is a number plate on the 78 DS80? I have only seen them with a small round headlight and then in 79 they had the small rectangle light. They are on US ebay all the time if you get desperate.

:D no problems Tony, just the weather for it and a holiday tomorrow so have a goody eh! ;)
Leith, correct, the '78 did only have a small headlight. I'm not overly anal as to what goes on so long as it fits in with the size of the bike. i.e. a regular PP headlight/numberplate looks waaaaaay too big and out of place. The pic below shows what I have so far. I fired it up for the first time this arv and holy crap batwoman! :o the fresh RM barrel, head, pipe, carb sure make for a responsive little sucker! The DS gearbox is the same 5 speeder as the RM80B so it's pointless swapping the bottom ends. I've retained the magneto flywheel so as the lights will function (to an extent), doesn't seem to hinder the little bugger as it still revs it's tits off like an RM when it's given a handful ;D wheels are bigger RM items (will swap the front for an alloy job soon), the swingarm is also the longer RM80B unit and forks are from RM80Z. I will reduce the travel and slide them back down in the clamps which are from an RM80C. Sidecovers are repro RM80B/C that are modified to fit. I do have a DS airfilter on the way from the US but this was under $20 including post. Figured I wouldn't get much cheaper so I grabbed it. It was just a cheapy half missing bike when purchased for $40 but it'll be a bit unique when finished and more like a mini PE than a DS which is what I'm aiming for. all in fun ;)
