some more of my favourite images.
note in 1971 no brakes then later that year ( see NY) disk brakes on flat tracker came a must, took MX a few years to pick up on that idea ( although mA rules dont explain that one too well)

Coool i hope to have some shots next week to put on here . I'm goin to have to ride on my mx front ,its a michelin s12 not really suited for hard tracks but it was alright . Yeah Broadford is a big track the dogleg is where the grader is parked and whey in the background you can see the fence for turn 1. there is a junior track in the infield at the top of the track also with 2 people on it in the photo of Emma on the CR80
-
i kinda like the shorter tracks better. Post the pics when you got em !

I think there will probably be a few of us from the ACT coming down for that one. We've done it the last few years and had a ball. It's a great event.

Sounds like a winner. Kevlar will be there with a vintage midget speedcar as well as the bikes.

Getting this thread back on track, here's a couple of photos from the mid 80s, taken at Action Park in Queensland.
I used to love the short-track bikes from the US, especially some of those cool TT500s and Rotax engined bikes. Anyone remember those Ron Wood Nortons? There was a great article about those in Motorcyclist. But... my favourites were the Aussie version - 500cc MXers lowered and with big fat wet weather tyres. Watching a few of those things on the move was brilliant - Braaaap braaaap.... Sadly, most of my pics from then are slides. Here though are a couple from my photo album. Not so clear cos they've been scanned through the plastic cover sheet. But you get the idea. Anyone else got some photos from that time?

In my search for the original owner of my Boss yamaha i have meet some really nice folks in the US, currently i speak regularly to Carlo lucia ( boss frames) and a few of his riders, along the way i have meet some really great folk who also rode in that period and all have great stories to tell ( im still weeding out off them the go fast tips) , but one thing i love is to ask them all for is some pictures, every picture tells a story and if i can just teach them to scan into the PC well be covered, although they are all learning, i got this one the other day from my new mate chuck, i always tidy up the prints and then name place just so that info inst lost cause as sure as eggs it will be one day, anyway currently this is my favourite pic for the week.
just look at the drift these boys are carrying, like they are on ice. IF i get a chance over the next couple of weeks ill try to get some more up unless i run out of space oin this server.

This photo could be the old fremont scamble track back in the 60s, later in the ealry 70's it became the oval track.
im trying to get some picture of his workshop from back in the day but alot are all faded out, good one of him and roberts ill try to dig out to.

this photo is carlo a few years later racing a pro-am race again at fremont.. probably the early to mid 70's im guessing, fremont used to be a scrambles track in the 60's.. but here it is a few years later as the 1/8 or 1/4 mile.. pretty sure its only 1/8th at this point.

Anyone from the old Villawood club recognise this rider on the BSA slider? This shot was taken at the Central Qld titles at the Bucasia circuit - late 60s. The rider in question was at that time the City of Sydney 250 Champion, but I'm blowed if I can remember his name. He'd have to be in his 60s by now.
Does the Villawood Club still exist?

Hi Jimg,
I found an old newspaper clipping about the event. The riders name was Bob Young, and the meeting was held on 08/09/1968.
Cheers,
Mike

Robert Young, always called Robert despite what any programme might say. One of the nice guys you'll ever meet. Haven't seen him in years. Use to see him regularly to and from work on a Tenere. Raced speedway on European curciut for a year or two.
Villawood club? Gone the way of the Dodo unless Millsy still got it stacked with mothers and grandmothers ;D.

Just goes to show some people will ride anything on flat track.

years ago i remember a.hill a grade rider replaced his maico motor with a twin suzuki he changed the crank so it fired and ran together

Here is my bike in 74 season at the Lodi bowl.
Check out the great quilted leather suit. and the saftey barrier, they were the days, like at the footy you could park on the fence and toot you car horn to bring your team home. heheheh
Photo comes online coutesy of our good and ever expanding mate Graeme ;D (megs wise of course)

OK, I've increased the photo space. I'll have to go through and prune out the old pics sometime soon...

Here my Boss F/T again in about 75-76 this time Jim's brother pat is racing it in Pro expert. Check out the leathers, they are sexy, funny thing is i spoke to him the other day and mentioned how awsome they were, i asked him if he new where they went. reply .............. i still have them. After 34 yrs - Yee haw.
Im asking for a full colour foto of those babies, if he wont part with them, i reckon its worth a trip to bali or some third world country that makes cheap sets up from foto's, how cool would that be riding in the original colours
i luv this shit ;D

Freaky, do you know & Just confirming somethin I believe the National MX was run in Dargle in NSW in 1980 and then down the coat to Acusa park for the Flattrack Championship.
What state is Acusa park and is it still running, can't seem to get a search up on it.I know it has been mentioned before.
thanks Alison
-
YEs Acusa is in SA, its in the hill sjust out of naine.
Probally been there since the late 30's in various forms and now is owned by MA.SA and has an enduro loop, a long track, a scrambble track and a mx loop.
only has 2 rounds of Dt and i think the rest of the time its club use or Ride days ( public) open days, because its volunteers who keep the tracks tidy it can be prity rough and unkept.
i think one of the guys from levis was grading it yeary but im not sure of that. GO MA, then link to the SA site and you will see Acusa park map. its nothing special but its all we have :O)
-
Thanks, found it,but I've used too many downloads now my speed is way to slow.
Have to wait till 1st June.
There are tracks out there to be ridin, thats for sure. :o and with so many stories to tell..
