Title: RM370 and RM400 Oversize Pistons
Post by: ranchak on January 20, 2010, 08:04:52 am
Hi Guys, I'm thinking about reproducing oversize pistons for the RM370A,B and the RM400N,T. I wanted to get some feedback to see what you guys thought about this. I'm thinking I will do a 1.5mm and 2.0mm oversize. Any suggestions or input? Thanks, Ron

There is another make & model piston which slots straight into those bikes and are readily available, so I think you should maybe try to take orders before you get a run done.
Cheers,
K

if there's a piston larger than 80.50mm with an 18mm pin that'll slot straight into the RM400's I'd be interested to know what it is :-\ Has always been a bit of an achilies heel for the big RM's only having 2 genuine oversizes 0.25 and 0.50. The pistons are around but the 0.50 rings are very scarce and can't be replaced as often as desirable. Surprises me wiseco or someone didn't make them but they didn't. Depending on price I'd be interested in a 1mm over for sure..starting at 1.50 over would seem to be losing an overbore..maybe 1.00mm and 1.50mm over would be the ticket ;)

Doc,
Rick Horvat in the states had Wiseco 1.00 + pistons for the RM400 N/T available, I bought one in 2003 and have it stashed away just incase.

There is accasionally an advert in the VMX magazine for him in the new products section near the back.

Regards
Rob.

You will probably want to make 1mm oversize pistons first before going to 1.50 otherwise thats skipping a size where you could get more life out the barrel.

Are the +1mm PE400 pistons ready yet???

Rob, I know Rick has oversize pistons, but I thought since I have a webstore it would be easier for you guys.

Sounds good, from memory it was a bit of a task to get one from him. I was fortunate enough to have a brother on hollidays over there who could bring it back with him.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I'm trying to add items that you guys need. I do alot of business with blokes in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, it's important to me to find out what you guys want or need. I will be adding:
   swingarm bearing kits
more reproduction gaskets (RM and PE)
   reproduction chain buffers
   more engine parts
   reproduction pistons

I have alot of parts that are not listed, I need to get busy and add them to the store. I was thinking about changing the layout of the store. Maybe have seperate headings for each year/model? This way if you have a RM400C you can see with one click what we have available for that bike.

www.bbimporters.com.au should have one from something else that will match up dimensionally and fit

for example a Sedoo rod goes in PE400 and Skidoo rod goes in PE250

Just been rereading this thread

Do you have or have you considered remaking the rubber rear guard mount for TM Suzukis? The one that wraps around the frame behind the seat.
They seem to be another popular but non existant part

Do you have a part number? I have been looking at the microfiche and can't seem to locate the part that you are requesting. Do you have a sample? Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the hold up. The part No is 63140-28300 and the part name is BRACE, REAR FENDER
This is from the ALPHA-SPORT site.

Unfortunately I only have one bracket and it's on my race bike at present and even then it's not really flash.

Does anyone have a spare they could loan for a pattern?

Brent

Thought I had one, but when the guy went to check his stock, he didn't have it. I'll check some other sources and see what I cna come up with.
