Title: Repair of plastic tank
Post by: pirie593 on January 04, 2010, 02:27:12 pm
Has any-one had recent experience with repairing a plastic tank.  I have 22l Acerbis tank that I fit to my XR400 for long treks up north and plan on doing a week-long trip around Lake Gairdner in March.  The tank has a small crack at one of the anchorage points and fuel weeps out.  The repair only has to do this trip before I retire the old beast.

Hi Pirie, you can hot solder iron the gap shut, just heat up the iron and then run it around the crack to melt the surrounding plastic into the leaking area.
A mate has the proper gun and sticks for this but that's here in Brisvegas.
You can maybe use a zip tie of the same colour as a filler rod.
Happy trails.

Thanks EML.  With 41C forecast for both days over the weekend, I will just leave the tank on the bench.  It should just melt naturally  :o  :o
