......machined hubs with 25% weight reduction :o. Love the concept, unsprung weight reduction,  and the look, but I get dreadful visions of a disintegrating front wheel coming off a jump at speed - whatcha reckon.

Maybe on a 125 but not on a 250/400. 25% is a lot and especially on the benchmark for lightweight hubs :o.

(I reckon the price is an absolute bargain. And that's without the machining.)

The other way to look at it, is that removing 25% of an already light hub, is probably not removing a lot of material...  :D

My gut feeling is that its probably still plenty strong enough - but I would want to see several others survive a couple of seasons' racing before using them myself.

I would tend to agree, working on the assumption that Yamaha probably over engineered the hubs in the first place allowing for use and abuse over many years. The hub's longevity, reliability and renowned lightweight and braking performance is testimony of the engineers skill and the built-in fudge factor. But using the advantages/disadvantages and the probability/severity equation, I wonder if the risk is worth the 250-300grams :-\ , even allowing for the fact that weight savings is done in grams and not in kilos.

In my limited experience aluminium swarf takes up a lot of space and weighs very little.

and really is the expense (both safety and cost) worth it for 250-300 grams when the rider could probably afford to lose a kilo or several???  ;D
