Post by: wato on December 29, 2009, 11:22:10 am

I would think with a better set of forks, an alloy swingarm and a good pair of shocks they would be competitive.
The standard shocks are junk and the forks are basically '73 models with a fraction more travel. The engines are still fast but have some gearbox issues.

That looks good :) They are one of the best looking bikes of the era.
What shocks have you got on it?

Snowmobile fox shocks, will get some better soon. Shocks that were on bike fell apart on disassemble.Thinking about rm b forks on front

Yer good job - could handle a few more pics if you have some.

fork kits were available - come up on ebay but rare.
S&W or Progessives 15" with the fork kit was the easy fix.

looks nice.  A decent set of shocks (ohlins maybe) make a big difference.  Keep us posted re the progress - I don't see many of these around now.

RM125B forks and triples would work well but the forks might hit the tank because of the inline triple clamps.
As motomaniac said a fork kit would be an easy fix but hard to find.

Great resto Wato. Is the muffler missing? Another forum member dkupf has one with the big original muffler.
Seems you are a Queenslander . Going to see it on the track in 2010?

The original silencer is built into the stinger like watos, the big bolt on muffler is the extra spark arrestor built mainly for the US.

nice original bike, I would leave it alone unless you are really determined to be competitive on it.

Wato. I took the big muffler off (weighted about 5kg's ::))and fitted a smaller J&R Answer muffler as well as fitted S&W Springs in the forks. It already had stage3 air caps in the forks.I have to do something with the rear shocks.I havn't touched the motor except a rebore. I find the bike fast enough to stay with the middle pack until I knock up  :). Darcy

Hello  dkupf, Could you post picture of muffler please. I have caps but spring wire that holds them in seems suspect.

If any one is interested, I have used DG swingarm, DG radial head & DG pipe to suit CR 250 M1-M3. I also have  NOS FMF pipe to suit same. All will fit CR250M as well, although the swing arm may affect class eligibility with the shock mount position. PM for detail & photo's.
Cheers,
K
