Ok we want facts. No bikes you 'wished' you still owned, just the longest you've ever owned a bike for. I'll start. Not proud to say that after having owned and sold over 120 bikes the longest one I've had is my RM500 for 6 years. Still got it cause its still in pieces awaiting resto! But will never part :)
-
Yes well I've had my little Indian ME 125 for about 10 years thats how long its taking me to put it back together :-[ jimson
-
Ok I'll Play but expect i will be well out of contention for years owned.
My 1986 Honda CR250RG, I still have it and got it in 1987 so that's 23 years nearly. i'm the 2nd owner and the orginal owner is still a very close mate of mine.
-
The 1970 Maico 350 thats been mine since I bought it new in late '70, which computes that we'll celebrate our 40th anniversary together next year. To mark the occasion, she'll get an engine freshen up and be entered for the Griffith Dirt Track Nats for her last proper race meeting before a life of Garage Queen retirement. The old girls served me and everyone who's raced her very, very well.
-
I've never really thought about it but the bike I've had the longest would be the 414 that I bought in 2006. Other than that I guess after one or two seasons they've always been traded up on the new model. :-X Hmmmm..........
-
And I've owned my race DT1 and other 350 Maico since 1985 so that's 25 years each for them.

A Honda 305 Dream! Honda's biggie at the time. My Dad brought it about 1967 and as is the ways of sons I 'acquired' it, re-registered it and used it as my first official roadbike in 1978. It was a lot slower than my Canam175 at the time but was better on the road. Still got the 'nightmare' under a sheet and I will fire it up and fettle it again one day. No plans on selling it (probably couldn't give it away!).
-
I've had my RM80 32 years and the RM400 31 years. When you're on a good thing....

MX400B bought in 96 and restored it, lots of NOS, gonna sell it, so then it will be my YZ250A, raced it since I bought it in 98, love it .....will never sell it.

Twas there and was won of the funniest/surreal moments in motocross.

32 years can anyone beat that?!
-
I would have thought 40 years with my Maico topped him!
-

I'm really quite a young man myself with still some years before I hope to attain Firko's vast wisdom and enlightenment ;D soooo...hypothetically when I reach his age I will have owned my bikes longer ;D did you buy the Maico new Mark?
-
Yes Bahnsy should have put in a new piston did 1 & 1/2 laps in practise and the bloody piston shit its self.
Tryed to save a few bucks and it cost me in the end.Wont happen on the RZ nothing but new stuff in her.
-
did you buy the Maico new Mark?
Sort of Doc. I was its first owner but it'd been ridden, possibly by Blair at a short citrcuit or for a test ride for a potential customer. I did know the story but I've forgotten. I got a couple of bob off the price and a set of front sprockets to make up for the pre delivery "abuse". I had wanted a 400 but all Blair had in stock were a couple of 250s and a couple of 350s. Seeing that I was going to use it mainly for short circuit he talked me into the 350 and I took the yellow one over the red one. I was a bit aprehensive about buying a 350 at first but it didn't take long to convince me that I'd done the right thing. It's the best bike I've ever owned.
-
I still have the Kawasaki KT250A that I bought new in September 1975 (my first bike), so thats 35 years.
I also still have;
My 1978 Husqvarna 390 AMX, 32 years. (its in bits in boxes)
2 x 1974 Cossack K650 Dneipr's, bought from a pastoral property in 1978. 32 years.
My 1979 (Model 199A) Bultaco 350 Sherpa that I was given by my parents for my 21st birthday, 30 years. (again in bits in boxes).
A 1978 Yamaha SR500, bought 2nd hand in 1980, 30 years.
A early 70's SL125 Honda, bought from a pastoral property in 1982. 28 years.
A 1962 Honda C72 Dream (250cc) bought from the original owner in 1983. 27 years
A 1964 Honda C102 Super Cub (50cc) I swaped a BSA Banten for in 1983. 27 years
A 1949 Matchless G80 (500cc) Built from parts in 1983. 27 years
There are a few others in the collection that I have had for over 20 years, but I think you get the picture that I rarely get rid of any bikes. Hopefully, in the new year I will start a rebuild/restoration of a DT100A, that will be built up from the remains of my two elder (twin) brothers' DT100A's which they bought new in 1974, (and we eventually trashed in the early 80's) and the remains of another which I found on the local tip a few month ago.

Geez, I've got nothing on you lot. ::)
I generally keep bikes for 2 or 3 years until I get bored with them. But I have been better lately...............
The longest I've had any bike was my DR750. Bought it in '88 and sold it in '99.
-
don't feel bad Tony, my crystal ball tells me in 2o years time you'll still have the CT110 ;) ;D
-
On the contrary good Doctor, I've already sold one CT110. ;)
My late 60's CT90's, on the other hand, will live with me forever, I reckon.
Sad, isn't it................. :-\
-

Cheers form the US. Had Dad's Ossa Phantoms since 76-in my posession since 92. I'll be 42 in July-and have only owned about well a lot of different bikes-but that is the longest-and will never leave.
Firko, I have a friend in Ca who has owned a 63 Maico 250 since 1964. ..and his 71 Sq 250 since new.
-
my trusty old work truck,
a 93 XT600.
bought in 96 and its still alive and well today. just with a few more oil leaks.
did a top end freshn up at 30,000k's, still on origional bore at over 90,000k's with the feul consumption as good as it's ever been, so why would i sell?
so that makes it a touch over 13years in my shed. ;)
-
What about my '69 360 CZ.....dad raced it in '69, gave/sold it to me to race in '70. Carl Fuller "stored" it for me in his shed for many years until I had room, and now its back home......does that qualify ??? ???
-
Never been very good at keeping bikes for very long, always had to move them on to get the next bike.
I have had a Maico 250 for about 15 years, really must put it together one day. ::)
Have had my Navara for 20 years, but thats been parked for about 5 years now so I'm not sure if that counts.
I know a guy who has had his CZ twin port 360 since 68 & his RM 370 since 77.
-
Still have my YZ125E bought new March 1978. Undergoing full resto but the engine currently resides in my sons YZ125F that he races in Viper.

An Elstar BSA Slider that's been in the family for 44 years.
Malvern Star, 45 years.
Hagon Jawa, 35.
2 X Army B40's, 30.
Brother Carl has a bike, The Thing, pretty near 50 years.
-
In 1981, I swapped my last Hagon JAP for a black XT 500, EA and I rode it all around the hills and rivers of the upper Abercrombie, I took our son Brian to Bathurst at Easter for the bike races on it , now, THAT is another story, Brian took over ownership of it in '89, rode it all around the fire trails back of Narooma as well as up to Sydney from Narooma to Tech. for a couple of years, he still owns it and rides it around regularly, I only just freshend it's motor for him, this year, re-bore and piston, cam-chain, valves, oil seals etc etc, a pretty good record for the old Black Beast and a tribute to regular oil/filter changes.

I know, Slides, I know, but it was a nearly brand new XT, the Hagon went to Jim and our house had just burnt down, so no more racing for a few years.

38 years. Kerr Bultaco, ex Kevin Patton. It's on the restoration agenda, then straight to the pool room. Julian Wigg rode it and reckoned it wobbled - he was right.
30 years. Wife - no restoration required, still in good nick and doesn't wobble ;D
