did you catch the bit where he said he hasn't ridden for awhile (at all), that is one potent dirt tracker!

beyond legendary status , thats what I was thinking too. My jaw didnt drop as much as my eyes welled up.How a guy his age can get on that thing and go wideopen from the drop off the clutch is just beyond me.

That's exactly what i was thinking. I can't believe how hard he went straight up after saying he hadn't even ridden a bike for a year!
That thing would be an absolute beast to ride. Even Rossi was impressed!

Banned because it had twice the horse power & lighter ........nah he was and still is just too good in my eyes.

“when I raced it, which ran a lot better than this year’s [replica] bike.
It was geared for 145MPH in 5th, at 10,000 RPM.
I looked at the tach once, and it was 11,500 – so I have NO idea how fast the thing was going. No idea.
All I know is that when it hooked up and you could shift it, it didn’t just go by Harley’s... it FLEW by Harley’s!!
Ahhh... getting it to stop was another problem!
Had I had the [modern] tyres that that thing had last night, they wouldn’t have saw which way the thing went.”

Thanks Luke .the other video is quite different - shows more riding- and worth a few watching's too. :)
-
He always did have a big opinion of himself, but he definitely could back it up.
For someone who did as many miles on a race bike as him, not having ridden for a year isn't long.
Impressive nun the less.
-
anyone have the you tube link to the original 1975 san jose mile race in good quality?
i have seen it once but would love to see it again.
-
I turn the speakers up and watch every couple of days .Awesome .
-
me too Hilly :D my favorite 10 seconds between 3:40 - 3:50. No rooting around, turns the bike around, lines up the first corner, cranks up the revs, dumps the clutch, holds it nailed flat shifting to the first corner and how the bike twiches for a split second when he hops off the gas and back on again to set up the slide...greeeeeat stuff 8)..oh and the sound!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
"I'm sure the guy says "rounding it in deep into turn 3, Kevin Schwantz has the white flag in the air, coming out of turn 4 lookin' for the white flag" 8)

Totally impressive, Even endoesed by Rossi.

He can ride well, but obviously not so good at high-school maths.... :D
If 10,000rpm is 145mph, then he was doing 166.75mph at 11,500rpm in fifth gear.
That'd be plenty, I reckon! :o

figures and statistics...there is one major factor missing from the equation..wheelspin. It may well have been geared to do 160mph but getting that power to the ground would take ideal conditions. Dirt track, even the mile oval type is far from ideal when in the same era the TZ750 powered road racer was having trouble with wheelspin at 200+mph on the Daytona banking! Very mind boggling to have all that power on tap but I still think the biggest single winning ingredient was Kenny riding on the absolute limit and taking the wrecking crew by surprise ;)

just getting some tips for next weekend at Broadford .thanks kenny
