Just got the flyer for the BBB with 2010 Manual of Motorcycle Sport. Easter weekend, 3rd & 4th of April. That isn't that far away. Who's going? What are you taking? I'd like to think that I'll take the H7, do a days riding on the Enduro loop and spend the next day looking at all the hardware (but I'll probably end up taking a heap of MX'ers and playing on the big track all day ::)). I'll be parking across from KB and Ian agian though. See if we can catch that prick that starts that four stroke at 11 o'clock at night...... >:(
-
ants and drunks great ;D
-
I will be there for at least 1 day and take Big Red. i may even take a 250 in dirt track mode if i get organised early.
-
Is the bonanza the week before the Aussie titles and will there be practice on the motocross track?
-
G'day Johnny, the HBBB is at easter.
-
Hoony aren't the Aussie titles in april also?
-
Bonanza is the weekend before the nationals. Drakie said that you can ride the track and get practice in for the next weekend .
-
No corruption by MV there, then...
-
I guess you'll be camped at the track for a couple of weeks then Brad..!! :)
-
It would be nice but reality says that I have to work to earn a living. I hate you reality....and your mate, hind sight!
-
i'm going with as much bikes & beer as i can carry .
-
We'll have a few Elsinores an a couple of little thumpers parked right next to you Ross, enjoying the serenity ;)
-
I still got my 17mm socket, air starter from the old drag bike Wasp, Nice high pitched scream as it works too ;D
-
, enjoying the serenity ;)
Ah the serenity......... :D
No corruption by MV there, then...
Ummm.....weren't the titles last year at the same track as Classic Dirt? :-\
-
Now Mr.Ross, that tuning fork, piano farm bike thing must have really affected your rationale, reasoning & just plain old common sense. You have started a thread about a non competition event, in the COMPETITION section of the forum! It's only down hill from here....
Cheers,
K

You have started a thread about a non competition event, in the COMPETITION section of the forum!
Every time two bikes are circulating around a track, it gets competitive......... ;)

Response from Ross Nimmo
Ummm.....weren't the titles last year at the same track as Classic Dirt?
Hi Ross - as you've seen fit to involve Classic Dirt into your discussion, as the promoter of Classic Dirt I feel compelled to correct your spurious suggestion that somehow there was some sort of inappropriate connection between the Nationals this year and Classic Dirt 6.
Classic Dirt was promoted by VMX Magazine, the Nationals were promoted by the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club. They used the same venue, there was no other connection.
HBBB in 2010 is promoted by MA, the Nationals in 2010 are part-promoted by MA - whether the dates one week after the other, at the same venue, can be seen as manipulative or not is not my call but that situation has absolutely nothing to do with two separate promoters utilising the same venue.
Regards
Ken Smith
VMX Magazine
-
And you wonder why......
Fella. The only connection I'm making is that both lots of Nats have had riding sessions held before the meeting. Other people seem to think there's some sort of conspiracy going on with the Nats being held a week after BBB. I'm just pointing out that the same thing happened last year. Ok? Hmmm?
Don't bother ringing. My phone's turned off this weekend.....
-
Hi Ross - your previous response was made directly to a post discussing corruption, so it didn't appear to just be a generalisation about events sharing venues. If it was just a generalisation then great.
Have a good weekend.
And yes, I do wonder why as well......
Regards
Ken
-
And you wonder why
I'll bite...wonder why, what?
-
Maybe i'm just a slow moving bloke from the West, but gee you guys take something that was from my point said in jest so seruiously. Who care where the events are held and the fact they coincide. Aren't we there for the comardaerie, bikes and the beer.
Yep I.m with you Firko
I wonder why, what and who cares!!
just enjoy fellows, a good thread!!
-
Corruption:Someone on here before said sarcasm doesn't work on forums..I think he's right. ;D
The positives by holding the two events close is great for those traveling and booking holidays etc.
The negatives is because it took two weekend off the calender and I believe it may have an impacted on the RR down at the island.
In modern mx we are now told what weekends are available for our club days, :( the calenders getting full. :P This pushes the club/interclub series rides into the warmer months.
State rounds being the cooler months. So we are left with the earlier/latter part of the year for events.
I suppose if ya want to ride these or any events under MA you have to like it or lump it ;D
cheers

The Klub Kevlar Good 'ol Boys are making the pilgrimage to the Bonanza at Easter but will be limiting our participat ion purely to the dirt track and speedway area. It gives us a chance to use our dirt track tackle for a change and can leave the MX and trials stuff for CD7. Some of the bikes will be seeing daylight for the first time in years and some for the first time ever. Eddie Phipps is bringing his ex Eddie Lawson Shell framed OW750 Yamaha, Champion framed Yamaha SC500 and a slider or two, Jonesy's bringing his 850 Nourish Weslake powered Redline, Aussie made SR60 speedway bike, Jawa long tracker and more, maybe even his genuine Jawa ice racer, Pete will bring his IZ465 project flat tracker and trick Astro, Bernie will hopefully have his TM250 short tracker finished, I'll bring the Trackmaster Benelli, Antig Maico the Hindall Ducati in dirt track trim and the Cheney Yamaha for some fine tuning for the following weeks Nats.
We'll camp at the dirt track where we can party as late as we like and therfore avoiding the possibility of our tents being used as urinals. After it's over I'll stay the week at the Clarke hacienda in Eaglehawk and hit the Nats the following weekend with the Cheney and it's foreign rider.
Fun, fun, fun.
-
I'm keen. Probably bring the KDX200 (to roost Tex as much as possible), and the YZ125X (Nationals 'practice'). And either the Cappra or the DT1, also for Nationals practice.
-
Probably bring the KDX200 (to roost Tex as much as possible)
:D
Ha! That's not exactly difficult - why don't you set yourself a real challenge?! ;) You could roost me on on an AG100...
You gonna be there both days?
I'll be there for at least one. Might even bring a motocrosser as well as vinduro mount.
I'm looking forward to attending this one again.
Tex
-
????? Lost me ::) Cheers see you both there :)
-
one drunking fark head annoys me the party will soon be shifting to another gear
Wow, what a warm welcoming vibe that's starting to emerge here. ::) Baseball bats, pissing in tents, intolerance. Somehow I think you've lost the plot. I've been to all six Classic Dirts and haven't seen or heard of any aggressive vibe at all and now here we are four months out from the Bonanza and I'm reading this shit. Besides the bikes and riding, the bonding element of these style of event is the cameraderie and sense of fun. If a few guys getting together over a few beers and having a bit of noisy fun annoys you, stay home.
-
Let's just drop this shit ;). I'm not getting into another slanging match with Firko (as good as it is for his ego). I'm going up there to have a good time (and get a shit-load of practice in :D)
-
thanks ross i may off been a bit hasty i hope i can be forgiven
when i go to church today i will pray for the mature grown old men men who use there sport/ hobby as a excuse to to become a slobbering drunken written off messes who abuse children in the name of motor sport
What the fluck is this about Paul? What has having a good time at a bike event to do with child abuse? Are you kidding or what? I'm gobsmacked by your stupid, irresponsible and totally disrespectful remarks. I know you're making a feeble attempt at sarcastic humour but the child abuse crack is taking it way too far matey. If you've got child abuse and alcohol issues, deal with it in the correct way and don't tarnish decent people having a bit of fun at a motorcycle event as "child abusers and slobbering drunks".
You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
-
that exactley the answer id expect from you, you stupid prick , you went there last year and some drunken forker swore and made a areshole off him self at my son ,at 3am after my son got up outa bed to see if the guy was ok while he was vomiting all over him self that what i mean stupid
-
you went there last year
I wasn't there last year at all. That idiot who swore at your son was totally in the wrong and I'd be more than a bit pissed off myself but your'e tarnishing everyone with the same brush with your baseball bat, slobbering drunks, written off messes who abuse children remarks, all in plural.
that what i mean stupid
Well why didn't you say that instead of slagging everyone else. Reread your post and you'll see that you used the term "grown old men" not "one stupid drunk" so how else was anyone reading your post to take it? You've got an issue with him, not everyone who has few beers in the spirit of having a good time.
Let's just drop this shit
I find myself in agrement with my old chum here. I'm looking forward to having a good time having a wee skid on my bikes, partying with old mates, meeting new people and generally enjoying myself. Bring it on.
-
Chill out .....this is not looking good from here.
-
I'm chilled already Oldfart and off out the door to a nice Christmas party with good friends and family. Merry Christmas.
-
Is this serious or tongue in cheek piss taking?
I'm hoping to be there to have a ride and camp at the track.
Maybe I'll have to wear tear offs at night as well.
-
For my 2 cents worth, Broadford was excellent except......
1. The dickheads that fired bikes up and made dumb-ass noises at all hours of the night.
2. People walking around with a can in hand in the middle of the day.
3. The people that nominated to come to the 2nd days MX to marshal and didn’t turn up. We then stood around for an hour or so waiting for a decision on what was going to happen. In the end the riders and their family did it and we got another session in.
Whilst i don't agree with Paul’s sentiments, he is kind of on the ball with the minority of a few unruly’s getting around that don't put the rest of us in a good light. I'm sure that Drakey will have it sorted for 2010.
Oh and for my benefit, please don’t put those lovely old bikes on a shitty bit of dirt out the back. Put them on the main track where we get to see them at full noise. Like a 125 on the pipe, the next best (or equal) is an old school twin cylinder winding itself up a strait.
Yee Hah... Bring it on.

if it was late sat nite/sun morn down the bottom flat track camp ground,it was the guy trying to leave on the commando, didn't get too far, forgot to turn his taps on ::),(thats what all the laughing was about ;D),was fairly quite after that from memory >:,could be a busy month down there!,the bash followed by VMX nats, followed by Vic historic R/race state titles, serious leave passes required for that lot, :P
-
I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Commando :D
-
These type of meetings, as we all enjoy, it will be one big party for all of us to enjoy if you drink beer or soft drink it don`t matter, we take the good from bad, we are there for one reason only, our enthusiasm about Vintage bikes, competition and just having fun in telling stories about the past and present.
Embrass that week fellows make it worth every minute, remember our past mates ( RIP) and our mates like our friend Noel bring them along within you and cherrish the moment. Its al about restoring the History of Australian Scrambles, Motorcross,Sidecars, Dirt Track, Speedway, Trials ,Enduro, Roadracing, Back that Rally Cross Calder. or just sittting back having a drink and talk bullshit.
Friendship is very important, Paul and Mark shake hands, say Sorry. ::) :D

Broadford - great venue, great track, "swap meet," good selling, friendly people. Drakey - he will get it right this year. Sure, a few hiccups in the inaugural 2009 event, but hey everyone that I met there had a ball, we spoke about old times, had a few drinks. Remember Broadford has had some of the biggest meetings and crowds since the late 70's. Having ridden this track for over 30 years it doesn't matter how tough you think things are, properly groomed the track will be perfect. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's great, but when you get to ride such a magnificent track like Broadford you should come off smiling as we did. We must remember one thing: we are lucky to be riding on one of the greatest tracks in Australia. This is my 35th year riding motocross, how lucky I am still able to throw a big bore around. Hope to see as many interstate and local vintage motorcycle enthusiasts there again in 2010 - it will be worth making the trip. What a great place to set up your bike for the Australian Vintage Motocross Nationals. Good luck to the MA. Bear
-
I see on another forum that Pelle Granquist will be a guest at HBBB, having a gallop on a 1978 CR390 Husky. Worth a look, he was a damn good pedaller in his day, and a nice guy as well. :)
-
well may be l should keep my bully, l am concern about my Dot making it up the hill, anyway it will be good to see the old girl going round. l would like to wear period clothing while riding it, Stadium or cromwell helmet etc. and all the riders in pre 65 did the same it would take everyone back in time.
-
I agree Dot, they look much better in the original kit and maybe there could be a parade lap or two then put your new duds on for some hot laps.
Qld will be down en-force with us coming with both the Wasp and the EML and I think Popeye wants to bring a roady to have a blast.
We have rellos at Romsey, about 20mins away, so digs are sweet and we'll stay down 'till the whole she bang is done and dusted.
We hope to go one better this year but from all accounts the sidecar fields will be brimming with top guns from both SA and Vic and it will be on for young and old. The boys from ASA play toughand can do the business.
-
there are a loy of sidecars out their, it will be a sight to see.
-
How far is the Broadford Town site to the track ??? ...thanks
-
The Broadford town is approx 2-3 km's from the track Alison, its very close but also very small.
-
Thanks Hoony 8)--just rang Broadford accommodation and its getting tight on rooms for the Nationals, for those not camping get in quick.... :o ;D
cheers
-
There's no accomodation within a cooee of Broadford over the Easter break. We tried to book back in September and it was all gone then. Apparently there's a major go cart event on closeby that ate up every avalable room. We're camping.
-
were camping tooooooooooooooooooooooooo :D
-
Yep that would be the 48th Australian national sprint kart championships at Hume International Raceway Puckapunyal on 2nd,3rd,4th April.
-
That will total big dollars over April for motorsports in Vic.. :o :P

We'll have it Geoff. That'll make a perfect Kamp Kevlar for the duration of the Bonanza. I especially like the veranda, perfect for that end of the day cocktail or two. Who do I make the cheque out to?
Now, a serious question...How long is the Bendigo-Broadford journey in kilometres and time?
-
100klm's, 1 hour, 15 minutes doing it comfortably or 45 minutes flying!
Cheers,
M.H

I'll lend him the Wasp so he can see how real men race.
No really, what classes will he ride? That will throw a wild card in the mix for sure.
-
Yer Yer-- its black top, but a Vincent and a forth in Isle of Man is pretty impressive, plenty of fog there :P
Cathcart’s attendance will help to establish the event internationally, as he currently syndicates his work in more than 70 magazines all around the World.
A former top-line competitor in Historic Racing, with a fourth place at the Isle of Man to his credit, Cathcart nowadays limits his racing to once a year, at the Goodwood Revival, but regularly appears in non-competitive events such as the HBBB.
At the HBBB, Cathcart will demonstrate several examples of the Melbourne-built Irving Vincents that currently dominate local Period 5 Historic events.
Ken Horner, who built the bikes along with his brother Barry, is returning to Daytona in USA prior to Easter, where Sydney’s Craig McMartin will race an Irving Vincent in the prestigious Speed Week, before it is then air freighted home in time to appear at the HBBB.
The HBBB will also feature demonstrations by US Motocross Champion Gary Jones, Enduro and Motocross star Pelle Granquist, former Australian Road Racing Champion Warren Willing, and Honda’s first Australian Motocross Champion Brian Martin amongst others.

Brian Martin saddles up for the 2010 HBBB
Posted: Wednesday, 10th February, 2010 : 4:49 PM - - 593 Reads
Brian Martin, the New Zealand ex-pat who took the first Australian Motocross title for Honda in 1974, will saddle up once again for the 2010 Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza (HBBB) at Broadford over the Easter weekend.
At the 2010 HBBB Martin will climb on board a Honda CR125 for a series of demonstration laps on the Motocross circuit.
Martin won the 1974 Australian 125cc Championship at Manjimup, Western Australia, on 2 June 1974, riding a Honda CR125 – the first of many local Motocross titles for Honda.
Martin came to Australia from Lower Hutt, New Zealand in 1968 along, with two other keen motorcyclists; Ross King and Craig Brown.
King quickly established himself as a top production bike rider in Road Racing onboard a Kawasaki H1, while Brown made national headlines when he almost won the inaugural Castrol Six Hour Race in 1970 at Amaroo Park, riding his own Honda CB750.
But while King and Brown’s racing careers were comparatively brief, Martin went on to combine Road Racing and Motocross for several years and competed regularly in the Castrol Six Hour race and at Bathurst.
Martin began his Motocross career on a Montesa, but after switching to a 400 Maico began to see success, winning the NSW 500cc and Unlimited titles in 1972.
In 1974, Martin was selected to ride the new Honda CR250 and CR125 for NSW distributor Bennett Honda, rewarding them with the National Motocross Championship.
He worked in the motorcycle trade for many years, notably for Eurotread, and has lived in Adelaide since the late 1970s.
The HBBB will also feature demonstrations by US Motocross Champion Gary Jones, Enduro and Motocross star Pelle Granquist, and Road Racer Warren Willing.
More information about the event is available on the MA website: www.ma.org.au/hbbb.

It'll be good to catch up with Pelle Granquist again. He was one hell of a rider and for the first few years of VMX was a regular starter on Chris Ellis's '73 400 Husky. Even though his knees were rooted he had a ball.
-
Due to some of our crew deciding to go to the Nats instead of the Bonanza I've had to cancel a couple of rooms we had booked at the Sugarloaf Motel. As of 1.30pm today they motel had three family suites up for grab so if you don't want to mix it with rabble making all the noise in the camping area, this might just be the ticket for a good nights sleep. Give the motel a ring as they won't last long.
-
mmmm good thinking ::)
-
are you still going Firko ?
-
I'm going up friday sometime ,probably be thirsty by the time i get there. !
-
Hilly old Mate are you up to a DVD or two under the shade of a Old Tarp.
may be a beer or a Vino or two
And I will bring that DVD I said I would for you of the 2008 Oz Dirt Track Nats in Canberra .
and because you have waited so long I will give you all the Dirt track and speed way stuff I got.
Hillly this time you need to bring the Nuts to eat..
see you Saturday
Dennis
-
see you Saturday
Which Saturday? Or are you going this weekend, to make sure you beat the crowds? :P
-
No worries Dennis i will bring some nuts !!!.
-
No worries Dennis i will bring some nuts !!!.
That would be Ross, Billet and KB then ;)
-
yep
-
Hey Hilly, do you still have that old roady you bought a year or so ago?
i have a "motion Pro" Mercury vacuum gauge for synchronising the carbs when you need it. actually i don't have a use for it now at all.
-
Yep and if i get some shed time it might make the trip . And yeah the gauge would be appreciated thanks Hoony .
-
are you still going Firko ?
Yeah Hoony, Jonesy and I are still coming down. Most of the other 'good 'ol boys' have decided to go to the Nats but neither he or I can make that meet so the Bonanza it is. Because we're sharing the car ride, I'm now only bringing my trusty 350 Maico and Jonesy'll bring his B44 Metisse and a slider or two for some dirt track skids.
-
No worries Dennis i will bring some nuts !!!.
That would be Ross, Billet and KB then ;)
Hoony, Hoony, Hoony when are ya gunna learn ? don`t be kickin the nut bags. :)
-
Hoony I Know a fine fella that is into 754s that has very possible uses for a carby vacuum balance set. ;) Four bloody carbies and some whinge and bitch here about tuning their single item on their MXers..... :D ::)
See ya Saturday at the HBBB :)

are you still going Firko ?
Yeah Hoony, Jonesy and I are still coming down. Most of the other 'good 'ol boys' have decided to go to the Nats but neither he or I can make that meet so the Bonanza it is. Because we're sharing the car ride, I'm now only bringing my trusty 350 Maico and Jonesy'll bring his B44 Metisse and a slider or two for some dirt track skids.
is the nourish weslake coming as well ?

Unfortunately no Hoony, Als been doing some major home renovations which got in the way of finishing the bike. Because of the magnitude of the renos he had to put most of his bikes, including the Nourish in storage to get them out of the way. I'd planned on debuting my Benelli Trackmaster along with his Nourish but some important bits hadn't arrived from the USA in time. It'll be the Nepean Charity meet in August for both bikes now.

Jimmy Ellis set to ride at the 2010 HBBB

American and Australian Motocross and Supercross Champ, Jimmy Ellis, will take to the tracks this Easter (3-4 April) as part of the 2010 Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza (HBBB).
Born in 1955, in Middletown, Connecticut USA, Ellis was one of the first stars of Supercross, winning the 1975 US 250cc title on a Can-Am.
Ellis began visiting Australia in 1983, contesting the rich Manjimup event in Western Australia in that year onboard a KTM.
In 1984 he won the Australian 500cc Championship at Broadford on a Yamaha, before going one better in 1985, taking both 125cc and 250cc titles at Nobles Falls, Western Australia on Yamahas supplied by Trevor Flood.
Western Australia suited Ellis, and he cleaned up the country’s biggest cash prize in the discipline of Motocross at Manjimup in 1986, winning the $6,000 main event and scoring a trip to Hawaii for good measure.
Later in the year he collected the $3,500 gold nugget first prize at the King of the Cross meeting before a serious knee injury curtailed his top level career.
Ellis who now resides at Bunbury, WA, still enjoys competing in the Veterans class in outdoor Motocross, and will ride a 1979 CR250 Honda at the 2010 HBBB.
More information about the event is available on the MA website: www.ma.org.au/hbbb.

If anyone is looking for accomodation for both the Bonanza and the Nats, Katies Cottage
has become available due to cancellation. It's a 2 bedroom cottage that sleeps 5 (6 at a pinch) is neat and comfortable and being located on Davis rd, is really close to the Broadford complex. We've stayed there before and fully reccommend it.
Ring Rob on 0408 338577 to sort out the details.
