I have had two Karcoma fuel cocks start leaking badly when first used following restoration projects on 82 and 78 model huskys. The internal seal seems to be made of a paper/cork material and it must dry out and then disintegrate when fuel is added after a long time. I doubt I am the only one to experience this so where do you Husky restorers get your seal kits for these fuel cocks from? Last time I had to fit a whole new cock at about $60 or so which is a bit steep just because a small seal leaks >:( >:( >:( Cheers

Use some cork gasket of a car inlet manifold or rocker cover they are pretty much the same thickness as the original, use some fine wet and dry and a flat piece of glass and sand the underside of the tap that rides against the cork, and a couple of wad punches, bobs your uncle no more leaks

Thanks Pete - I'll take your advice and try making my own :D :D

The home made seal worked great ;D ;D ;D Used 2.4mm neoprene impregnated cork scrap from a gasket kit for a automatic transmission (local workshop gave me the leftover bits from a kit they fitted to a car). Used an el cheapo leather hole punch tool ($13 from from Mitre 10) to punch the 4mm holes in the cork. O Rings used for sealing the connection to the tank and the hose fitting. Thanks Husky 67 :) :)

Good call. That charlatan swine that used to fleece newbies to join the Husky Club used to advertise repair kits for the Karcoma taps, but in the end they're not overly technical and a home fix is the go. If you need a new tap Fernando has them...
Edit : Huskyjunk.com has the rebuild kits for $40 as well.

BTW I emailed Karcoma in Germany a month or so ago asking if they had an Australian agent. I explained the problem - a 30 year old Husky petcock that leaked, I was looking for a rebuild kit and sent them a photo of it when they asked what type it was. They still make the petcock used on vintage Husky's and said that they would send me one for free ;D ;D ;D ;D. What great people taking pity on a Husky owner in Oz. Naturally now have a spare I will suffer a leaking petcock ever again I expect ::) ::)
