as the ad says im in need of a rod kit for my yz400d budget tracker any leads guys?
-
$99 USD bucks plus postage is the best youll get for the rod only, no kits avail, and not an after market part made that ive seen.
-
so thrust washers and big end bearing are available from the local yam dealer then?or do start pullin the top off every 250/360/400 i can find till i get a good rod kit candigate
-
you've lost me with that 214 thing.
i thought a 214 rod was to suit the DT/RT/YZa/YZb 250/360 motors.
but now your talking YZ400d.
are they the same rod?
if so, then i think it's the YZ250j rod that fits or pro-x do one.
confused ???
-
someone must have put a 250 crank in with a box of yz400 remains and i got the 214 off that crank's rod but when i pulled the top off a dt400d i found a 498 rod and a piston with the windows to the exhaust side the farmer must have thought the windows were exhaust valves!!!just checked the IT site and 400's take a 498 rod so has anyone got some leads on one?

is this any good? its the 498 rod
http://203.59.136.171/search/index.php?step=5&make=YAMAHA&model=DT250&year=All&category=Connecting+rod+kit

seems like yamaha uses these rod kits 214/431/498 in just about every dt250/360/400 up to the end of the e models with different casting's as tech had forced change abit like the yz125/it175 and the 125/175 dt series where there's 3 or 4 different rod numbers as well
-
hi all
the 250 and 400 rods are different 400 being 431 and 250 being 498 the 250 rods are easy to get but the 400,s are rare they do come up now and then on ebay.
thanks arno
-
431 rods are the same as the 214, which takes you all the way back to the start of the thread.
I have not heard the newer 498 rod being able to sub from the early motor 214 or 413, if this the case can someone confirm, cause the last made same rod part number would be good, incase they are a newer kit avaiable from a late model ;)
-
i have got both 250 and 400 motors 1977 d ,the rod for the 250 has 498 stamped on it, and it is different to the 400 rod ,i am getting a rod assembled at the moment so i cant check no,s but i think it had 214 on it. the 498 rod does mx 250 yz 250 dt 250 74 to 77
-
think it's time to go back to the wrecker's armed with verier's and measure the rod's centre to centre and see what gives, from what of seen on the web they share rod same dimmention's and offset the crank pin 3mm to get the extra 6mm stroke for the 400's.back to the learning curve on 250/400's!!!
