Title: SP370 carby, tank & seat
Post by: TT on December 01, 2009, 10:39:09 pm
Pretty self explanatory. I'm after a carb, tank and seat to fit an SP370. '78 or '79.
Doesn't have to be OEM carby and DR400 may even work?
Also after DR400 bash plate and the small rectangle headlights that came on the DR370. Maybe RS250 and DS80 may fit??.
pm, email or call me on 0410 504 815 if you have something for me.
Thank you.  :)

i used to sell alot of std 34mm tt500 carbs to the sp boys and they worked well with a pipe and  opened up airbox, they bolt up easy being from the same family of mikuni range and you gain a 4mm increase in carb size

Thanks fatboy. No, there was no carby on that one. But you're right, I did pull that engine down and it all looked pretty reasonable in there.  ;D

pm sent oldfart. Thank you.

I've also had an email from a guy with a seat, so I've got nearly everything I need within 12 hours! Thanks fellas.

What's the project Tony T?
I may have one of those DR headlight assys but I think it is cracked below the number plate.

Nothing too exciting EML. Just want to put together a DR370.
We didn't get them in Australia but most SP370 parts are the same.
The headlight I'm after doen't have a number plate. Like the photo below.

I am doing the same thing....

Have you any little tips i can use to make things easier etc? I haven't started yet but intend on a full engine rebuild, a few frame mods and some panel beating on the tin ware.

Cheers,
Steve

Good stuff, Steve. I've had a few SP's and know them fairly well, but haven't gone down the path of modifying them much.
I've got parts and workshop manuals if you need anything out of them and a lot of spare engine parts.
oldfart is pretty clued up on modifying these things.
Keep us posted how you go with it.  ;D

Steve, I'm picking up the bits for my DR500 sidecar project tomorrow and the guy has some SP400 stuff. I will see what he is interested in parting with. I know he has one SP400 he is getting ready to use as a ride-to-work hack as I repaired the frame for him.

Thanks jimson
The only things I think I'm going to need now is a tank and a DS80 (?) headlight.
But I wouldn't say no to side covers and guards.
I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks EML, i already have two 370's to play with. One for vmx and the other for dirt track (eventually).

Tell me more about your DR500 sidecar, i have one of those (DR500 that is) but am looking to pass it on. Some of the sidecar boys tried to get me to passenger at CD6 i was half keen but scared shitless...ha ha.  Is this highjacking?

Tony, i'll definitely keep you updated, vmx bike first as it will be the easiest, then we'll see where we go from there.

Geoff Udy and I raced a DR500 with alloy sidecar for a few years back in the mid eighties. We won a state title and finished second in a national 500cc class in '83. It was quite quick and handled well, this is before the true lightweights got going in '86 or '87.
That outfit was sold to the Neilsen bros from Beerwah and has never been seen again >:( ???
I hope to be able to replicate that sidecar and have some fun.

Hi Mark. There is a bit of them going about. I have been offered a few in the last couple of months.
I'll keep you in mind as I will need more parts as the project comes together.
Is your Dr500 an S or an X. Either road trail or enduro??
What are the gas tanks like as they usually rust out quickly.

Is there a good rear wheel in the mix as mine came with 1 wheel and two spare hubs but nothing complete.
