Title: your taxes at work
Post by: paul on December 01, 2009, 09:26:40 pm
The Australian Federal Government provides the following financial assistance:-

BENEFIT   AUSTRALIAN AGED PENSIONER   ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN AUSTRALIA
Weekly allowance                           $253.00                                               $472.50
Weekly Spouse allowance              $56.00                                               $472.50
Additional weekly hardship allowance $0.00                                               $145.00
TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT              $16,068.00                                  $56,680.00

If I was a refugee, why would I look for work?

Please forward to all your contacts so that we can lobby for an increase in the aged pension.
After all, the average pensioner has paid taxes and contributed to the growth of this country for the last 40 to 60 years and may have even fought in a war to keep Australia 'free'

Where do our politicians get their ideas from?

Not only that. I know of a Family who brought their Grandmother out to live with them.
Thats reasonable enough but after ten years was up She went back to the Old Country on a full Ausie pension even though she didn't work at all while she was here.Apparently thats the rules.Thing is as little as the pension is here compared to our cost of living in some countries it amounts to more than the average worker gets and you can live very comfortably on it once you go back.Thank you very much.

Those figures are a load of shit, don't beleive what you read in chain emails  ::)
Refugees don't receive any more than an Australian citizen would.
Illegal immigrants don't get an allowance...they get a trip to Villawood

That was my first thoughts but I can't confirm it one way or the other - haven't got the time, interest or knowledge of the workings and policies of the dept of Social Security. Is there an Australian version of Snopes?

Maybe you'd be more concerned if your parents or Grandparents had to survive on the pension.
The refugee figures might be off but the Australian pension figures are'nt.

I'm more concerned that there will be NO pension when I'm due to get it. As the current trends of people living longer , there will be more people eligable for pensions than there will be working paying taxes.

MIGRANT PENSION HOAX (http://www.hoax-slayer.com/refugee-payment-hoax.shtml) a full 10 second google search. The above link is another cut and paste fromUS CHAIN EMAIL (http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/refugees.asp)

I would be extremely weary of these figures. The internet is infamous for people publishing some extremely dodgy statistics to make an argument. Assume nothing. Remember the corollary of 'If it sounds too good to be true....' is  'If it sound too extreme to be true, it probably isn't' ;) ::).

The data needs to be checked before anyone gets too hot under the collar ;D.

All of this stuff about immigrants getting more social security than Aussies is bullshit and is becoming very annoying. The sad part is that once these emails go out, 75% of the people who read them beileve them. Remember how we all hated Greeks, Italians and those nasty Maltese back in the fifties/sixties/seventies? Now, thirty years later our daughters are married to their sons and we all love 'em and can't wait until the next Greek seafood BBQ or a big plate of Cannelone at the local Italian restaurant. Sure a number of middle eastern clowns have created a feeling of hate with their anti Aussie and anti female actions but they are a small percentage of the good Lebanese immigrants. There are a lot more good ones than Hasam el Masri out there. The Leb hoons have given their whole race a tarnished reputation that's not deserved.

Remember when we all hated those evil 'slope' boat people? Now we drive over to Cabramatta for a Vietnamese feast at one of the brilliant restaurants and go on holidays to Vietnam, Cambodia or Thailand and think nothing of enjoying a big plate od Pad Thai or Mussaman Curry at the local Thai, all the time commenting on how friendly and courteous the Thai or Vietnamese 'slopeheads' are.
Now it's the poor bastards from Sudan or Sri Lanka or some other country who are trying to find a better life for their children in a country that doesn't kill its own because they're a different religion. If past history is any indication, they'll eventually assimilate into our society and will contribute in a positive way to our great country.

I'm sorry to rant on this but I've been getting a lot of these racist chain letters lately and at first thought it would go away but like a snowball, it seems to be getting bigger as it rolls along. With Christmas coming up, wouldn't it be cool if we could all get along and stop sending on this racist bullshit. It does nothing positive for our society except breed hate.

True dat Firko. Always curls me up when I see some chinese looking bloke who sounds as Aussie as the rest of you.

On the other hand, it gets my goat that I pay chunks of tax, don't get medicare, don't get free schooling for the kids etc just 'cause I'm on a 457  >:(

Well the bloke waiting at the bus stop with the ipod on and the schoolgirl texting away on her mobile seem to be going OK................   ::)

Beware the YELLA TERRA, oogiddy boogiddy, the more things change the more they stay the same.
As said before, I remember my father not liking the Italians & Greeks, I had to take a reality check recently when my 16 yo daughter came home with a Korean boyfriend, living in Strathfield it was a pretty good chance but he's a good kid and I'm okay with that.
I would like to think that those originally stated figures are wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.
I'm reaching 50 next year and have been in full time employment all my life and the last 18 years self employed, like a lot of others I probably haven't made the best financial decisions but hope that if I need it the pension will be there.
