MX legend Vern Graysons lovely wife Averil underwent a big operation for bowel cancer on Monday. Vern rang to tell me that she's in good spirits and that the doctors are hopeful of a full recovery although it's too soon to know for sure.
Averil is well known to vintage racers the country wide not only through from her marriage to VMXs most controversial racers but from her long sting as an officer (secretary? I'm not sure) with the BMCC. Vern and Averil are two of the sports most well known and loved characters so on behalf of the VMX fraternity I hope that Averil is soon back on deck, illness free.

That's very good news so far so lets all hope the news stays good then gets better. Like you said, Vern and Averil have been tireless workers for the Brisbane mcc and VMX in gereral for bloody years and as usual they get bugger all rewards for their effort.

Vern's pretty down in the dumps right now. They've been married since they were teens and I've never seen a tighter couple. He's been bitten by the 'black dog' in the past so lets hope he can keep his chin up and that everything comes out smiley on the other end.
The number of instances of VMXers partners becoming ill through various forms of cancer in recent times is alarming. To all others who's lovers are battling the evil 'Big C' I wish you all the best. I have some knowledge of the anguish you're going through. ;)
