Why did we all duct tape the peaks on to our helmets back in the early seventies? Was it because Trevor Flood did? and did he do it because he saw the Euro's do it?. While I think of it why did we all wear our kidney belts on the outside of our shirts? Was it to show everyone that we owned a "Gold Belt"?

I taped mine for 3 reasons To stop gloop running under it off the helmet (you have to actually travel quickly to have the munge blow back off the lid)
To stop it ripping off at speed (when you tried to clear the goop)
To keep the pieces close by when you tried to go too fast in the gloop to help clear the munge off the helmet
;D ;D

i thought my kidney belt was a gstring
my peak was a thing for swattin flys
duck tape held me boots to me legs

Check out the Photo's i posted on the new site from waverly and melton . Kidney belts on the outside and Duct Tape Sticker Kits were all The rage 1981.

I always thought it was for structural support for the peak to act as a front spoiler to create gobbs of downforce at speed :D

I had one of those big Shoe white helmets that weighed a ton. Duck tape around the press stud peak. A bit of tape at the back to hold the goggles on. Padded White/red Yamaha jersey and rossi boots. On top a YZ490L in 1985.

Remember the padded jersey's? Golden Breed, ? Tyco how bad did they look?
