G'day viewers would like to know if a Honda SL350 twin is pre 70 legal to race in VMX or Dirt Track :-\ thanks jimson

It's a weird one Jimson. The SL350 didn't come out until 1971 and according to MoMs is not allowed for pre 70 but is listed for pre '75. However the CL350 is listed as allowed for pre 70. The SL and CL 350 engines are close enough to be not noticable and the frames are similar. Methinks if a an RT1 can be allowed in pre '70 the SL350 should too but...... it ain't.

Firko its all up in the air at the momment but I have a BSA Starfire frame from 1969 so it would only be the engine of the SL350 the rest would be what ever I can find thats pre 70 legal I was going to use a XL350 engine but that would stop the pre 70 thing happening.jimson

CL 350 is very pre70, but the basic CB350 road frame and wheels limit even pre70 go. SL350? maybe the very very rare first ones that still had the electric starter could mount a good case, but as Firko has stated 1970 was designated first model year in Australia.

According too the HONDA Motorcycle Identification Guide, 1959 - 1998, (American edition) the first model SL350 (310 model code, electric start engine) had a release date of 15/08/1969 and was on sale during 1969 - 1970. This is not definite proof that the model was available here in Aust prior tp 1970, but if you really want to run a SL350 in the pre 70 class it is worth contacting Honda Australia for confirmation, or putting a request in to MA with the model guide as evidence.
