Alright,
just picked up a klx rolling chassis (has gearbox, no top end)
I'm looking at slotting something else in it other than the original motor.
Would like to go down the path of a two stroke 250/500 EVO motor, has anyone had any experience in such a conversion?
Also a set of 43mm forks, anyone tried to slot a setof later KX triple clamps?
Any recommended suppliers?
Thanks in advance

I have experience of KLX/RM400 engine, it was also used as commuter to work and went like a SOB.

Yeah Holey,
I was thinking along the lines of the kdx to keep it "Kawasaki", but the lack of bits (here in OZ and probally the rest of the world) has put me off a bit.
I was thinking of either PE 400 or IT 465, plenty of parts, reliable as, and both have the exhaust port in the right place. (single front downtube)
Marc,
Did you have anything to do with the building of the one you mentioned?

Don't forget the DT360/400. Strong unit, motor, gearbox and clutch. And ease/cheap to come by ;). Easy hotrod; swap the MX/YZ heads, barrel and carbs. Either adapt a chamber or talk to Lozza, job done. Good, strong, unique Vinduro bike ;)

Don't the DT's have a twin front down tube/ central exhaust port?

Yeah piece of cake, just rearrange the mounts. Much easier than converting an XL250 to Yamaha mono shock. ;)
The other motor that is a piece of breeze to use is an XR/XL500 motor.

someone might have a photo of Mark Meadows old KLX/XR

Correct.
I've got a KLX frame here that's been (roughly) modded to take a RM250X motor. Is a 250X motor related to the N/T motor?
-
closely related , different reed induction @ engine cases
-
Nathan,
Does it still have the shock mounts intact ? (If so is it for sale?)
The previous owner of mine couldn't remove one shock, so they just cut the top mount off >:(
I would assume a RM N/T motor would bolt straight into the X mounts. Over to you Oldfart..... or Doc.
Must get some before shot's to keep this alive.

try this with it..... good chassis and good motor, pity Honda and Kawasaki took so long to manage it.

Yes, no - you can have it. The back of the seat rails have been deliberately bent upward, so it now fits a late 1970s Yamaha seat, and there's a few other 'interesting' mods done - but nothing serious, and it would be an ideal frame to tinker with, rather than hacking up a good one.
