I was at the wreckers today and he told me you can see what year and month of manufacture a bike is if the bike is using its original rims because its stamped in the rim he checked to bikes while I was there and he was right is this old news and I'm just a bit slow. jimson

it's not on all rims Jimson..mainly yamaha it seems and only applies if the rim is original ;)

Doc the two bikes he showed me where Suzuki's.

i think its the three numbers after the letters dot eg dot 978 would be 9th month year 78
-
The dot mark on the rims is usually a year before the bike, ie. DOT 8 78 will be on a 1979 model bike. Every so often the rims will be the same year, but most of the time the rims were made before the bike, hence they are a year older.

spot on DJ and the same applies to Excel rims ( after market )
