mmmmm..veeeery nice..not entirely perfect but very very very nice all the same..will give the new buyer a few little things to do except look at them ;)

Wast there an 80 & fifty then as well.

there was an RM50 and RM80C ba ;) be nice to have them all eh
-
yeah I copped a perve on them yesterday - then I thought their "quality" had been bought into question on here before?

So whats not right about them? I don't have a microscope to see any faults!
-
I wasn't knocking the bikes. God knows they're a league or 3 above anything I own and if I had a lazy 20K I'd grab them ;) the few small items I was talking of are pissy little things.
99.999% of RM's didn't have the clutch cable routed on the outside of the chamber. There was a clip that bolted to the cdi bracket to also hold it away from the steering stops when routed on the inside.
I think it's the 250 where the clamps and fork legs are overly polished, without going back to the pics the same bike I think has a burred up plated over axle head and no washers under the lower shock bolts which is a must where it's steel on alloy.
The throttle housings are all set at a funny angle and may even pull tight on the cable on full lock (as ride bikes they'd be begging to be damaged)
No doubt given a BIG enough magnifying glass there'd be more ::) No disrespect to the seller and the way I look at it I'd HATE to buy a bike where I couldn't do anything more to it ;)

Geez Doc your a tough audience. I mean for sure some of the washers are cadnium plated where they should be zinc.
I think 5 grand each is a steal given what went into them.
-
I'm not really a tough audience Mark, I said the bikes were very very very nice and I'd own them at the drop of a hat if I could but eh, being an ex bike detailer you notice the little things which make up the complete picture. Normally I don't like to comment because ppl think I'm being picky, I'm not, I'm only saying what I see. There's a small black/white sticker missing from the bars also, goes between the clamps but not shown in any part listings for any model ;)
-
Doc not trying to be a smartass but the RM250b &c had the clutch cable on the outside of the chamber. It's like that on the brochure and that's where i've got it on my 250b. I tried it on the inside of the pipe but it doesn't fit as well.
Nice bikes though, a few guys should get together and buy them and split them up.. 1 each.
-
no worries Johnny, I'm afraid I've come across as a smart arse a few times but I don't mean it that way. I'm glad to be pulled up on things, especially on models I don't own. You are quite right and for arguments sake I shall correct my post now to read 'none of the 1978 RM's came with the cable outside the pipe' :P
-
I must eat my words yet again also, it appears the brochures show the throttles in precarious positions from the factory so I'm wrong on that count too ;D
-
but Doc I see where you are coming from. Just recently there was a 79 Honda CR250R on Oz ebay for $9K - I had a 78, love Hondas and the first thing that stood out to me like dogs nuts was the side panel decals were in the wrong place on the panels - now I would of thought if you were asking me to pay $9K for a restored bike at least the decals would of been in the right spot - maybe that is my OC anal side coming out?

mmmm..I never knew I had an anal side with bikes either Ross so this comes as a real surprise to me also cause obviously I do :D I was also going to mention the 400's tanks stickers has a bit of a crooked Z but I shut my trap because they really are beautiful bikes and the purpose of my post was not to pick them to bits but simply say there is still a little that could be done which to me is a good thing ;)
