OLDYZ

yep great for a 20 odd year old bike..... hell where did the time snce 1981 go. ???
Anyway she is getting a rustoration as they say in the vntage bike mags.... I am going to soak up that patina
-
Marc, good find specially for the dollars ;)
I remember when these bikes first came out (was a second year apprentice and had just given up motocross), they were such a great looking bike when I seen them at Archerfield for the superbowl of motocross (including the out of control C grades on them). Great to see they are still around in genuine condition, front plate and all.
Whats the plans mate full resto??

Hi Shane, no I am going to clean up the bits that count and use her. Shame to lose 20 odd years of history, I will recad all the rusty bits and give the faded plastic a birthdays, shock service and run her.
-
From what I can see Marc it should still come up a treat ;) post some pic's when she's ride ready mate.

No worries mate. Yeah this one is rider, I have enough garge queens as it is.

yeah that looks good already Marc thanks Michael. :)

A very good friend of mine, Ray The Baker, has one of these CR250RB's and it's been one the most stone reliable bikes I've ever come across. Not to mention it gives my 400 a good run and actually beat me home in a dirt track event :o the swine!! ::) seriously I can't speak highly enough of this particular model Marc :) here's The Baker dragged out of his 10 year retirement at CD6 but vows he'll be there again next year 8)

thanks Doc, funny everyone gets all gushy about the 81 CR450 and overlooks the 250 from that year....always liked them.
I am going on a mission to try and revive the original front and rear guards, tank is good, I think just the guards were poking out from under a tarp in the elements.
-
mmmm..had 1 of those at the time too (cr450) it spent more time as pictured as output shaft woes caused empty wallet syndrome. While it went pretty hard it shook itself to pieces and was an animal to start :o not saying the 450 is a bad thing as I wish I still had it but I liked the 250 better 8)

I am still amazed how Honda can react so fast, corporate pride.... CR450 missed in a few key areas like the engine and suspension, but within a year the 480 was missile and the 500 even better, they only missed once, then built the best open class bikes forever more.
Looking forward to giving the 250 some love.

Woohoo had a win for a change, fired her up this morning and she purrs like a kitten.
-
so there it is after a wash and some love, gave it a 10pm run down a back street in Tokyo ;D

i had one back in november 0f 1980 had some honda conections back then they had lots of problems first ride smashed the botom of the pipe it was lower than the bottom of the frame honda gave me a diffrent pipe that didnt run so low two weeks later the gear box went bang again honda replaced all the gear box parts this happened a total of four times each time they sent the parts back to japan the last time they replaced the complete gear box all shafts input and out put , the selector drum all bearings ect the selector drum was to blame so i was told . the last straw for me was when the shock hose come of the shock id had two big crashes because of the gear box locking and the other when the rear shock hose went when the bike did go it was great winning all the club days i went in and two opens in c grade but to many dnfs forked the year for me

Well Doc says they are stone cold reliable but yours had never ending problems, its a bit of a lottery really. Anyway I wish all my bikes showed up in one piece and ran.
