Paul,
Frame stamped 0 =1980 and 10 = the month. October 80, which usually means an 81 model by the time it arrived here.Production for the next years model usually started in September/October
       541 is a 250 (1981) usually enduro.

I'm led to believe, although it may well NOT be so, that they all had the six speed box, but the MX version had one gear blocked from selecting. Can anyone confirm this?
Cheers,

The 540 engine it is true that !st gear was Bolcked Out .

But by the 541 engine first gear was removed and had a Coller fitted ..

Best way to tell if a MX or Gs a GS has a Center stand ?? or will have the mounting brakets for it ..

Mx has a Floating back brake But so did sume GS

Gs have a Choke in the Carby slide ..and a Leaver on the Handle bars .

I could go on ..

A lot of  KTM that came to Oz wear a Cross of the two a Gs with a lot of MX stuff like a XC
