There’s an Australian Hodaka Facebook page and a U.S. one. Parts are readily available from the U.S. They are getting quite a following, you’re not a serious motorcycle collector unless you have at least on Hodaka in your collection.

I’m old, and I’m still here from time to time.
 I’ve never raced or moved in those circles.  I’ve always been a lone trail hack and moved to moderns as time evolved, but love old bikes and tinkering on them. This forum has always been a wealth of knowledge, I poke my head in occasionally but there’s not much traffic anymore, but that seems the same for most forums. I think the instant phone access to social media seems to have caused that.

If you break a tap, drill bit or easy out spray it with freeze spray then hit it with a punch and shatter it, then you can pick the fragments out.

Thanks Pete, I’ll look into it. At the moment I’ve ordered a mower/pit bike tap with a 10mm screw in fitting and a 10mm timber insert for woodworking. I thought I’d screw that into the tank with some Stagg joining paste and the fuel tap into that.

Hi, no doubt being in the early stages of dementia, I destroyed my ty tank.  I don’t want to talk about it because it’s too embarrassing. So I’m in the market for one if anyone has one lying around that they have no use for. I know it’s a long shot.
At the moment I’ve fitted up a TL250 tank that works, but it’s sort of weird.

I also have a couple of plastic centre mount tanks for an Elsinore and one from a YZ  that that fit and look kinda okay on it. Now they just have a round hole for the fuel tap. There’s no screw holes for a normal tap and I doubt there’s enough meat to put some self tapping screws in to mount a normal tap without going all the way through. Unless that’s okay?.  So does anyone know what type of tap and where I could source one from?  I do recall back in the day seeing the taps where you had to feed the nut through from inside and they ran O rings to seal them.

Thanks guys, I’ve been googling to see what I could obtain. I’ll pull the barrel off and have a better look at it. It might be still in spec.

Thanks, no I haven’t looked underside of the piston as I haven’t pulled the barrel off yet. Just wanted to make sure I could get parts before I pulled it all apart. There’s no hone marks left in the bore.

The bike ran when I parked, but went under in a flood a few years back. I drained all the water and oiled her up as best I could considering both my sheds went under and I had a mammoth task. I focused more on my expensive bikes.

My son was showing some interest in it so I pulled it out and thought it’s probably about time to get it running again.

Yamaha / TY 250 piston rings

Are the piston rings for a 74 TY250 the same as DT250 and YZ250. Also which years would be the same, ie. IT250 etc. And pistons while we’re at it. Aside from eBay, does anyone stock them. My piston has 7025 stamped on it, so I assume it would be .025 oversize.

Mate bought a new computer, he had set up problems and rang the number on the box for tech support. Long story short, scammers had intercepted the number and got access to his computer and held him to ransom. Lucky for him it was still under warranty.

Thanks Pokey, just msg'd  your advice to the mechanic and he's onto it. I told him yesterday it will be a 10 cent part that we've overlooked.

Bazza, i'st a 2 stroke, plenty of water coming out of the spout. My guess has been as Pokey has said electrical. Water damage comes back to haunt you in the form of corrosion. I've been having to pull apart starter motors and clean rust off armateurs and free up brushes on everything that went under.

Husky, yes the mechanic fitted a pull start to disconnect the control box. But it does seem electrical. The motor runs smooth until it conks.

My boat mechanic and I are stumped, so I thought I would ask on here because this forum has the greatest wealth of mechanical knowledge. I know it not bike related, but some of us fish aswell, I'm sure.

My boat capsized when my yard flooded during cyclone debbie. The motor was under water (fresh) for about 8 hours before I could retrieve it. The next day my mates and I  removed plugs cranked her over sprayed her with CRC, dewatered and got her running. No problems. I started her up a few times over the next month or so and would have her running sweet. Took her out on the water and under load she would cut out. So I gave her to a mechanic, because I'm still dewatering bikes.

The mechanic has swapped over coils, cdi unit, pick up sensors, gearbox,  fitted a pullstart to eliminate the starter circuit etc. Motor has good compression. It starts and will run on a hose for as long as you want. But in the water it will conk out after say 20 minutes. It will start straight away and run fine, then randomly conk out. Each time it starts straight away and runs fine. The cutting out happens at random intervals. The only thing he hasn't replaced is the wiring loom, that will be the next effort. Someone also suggested crank seals. And also selling the motor and buying a new one, but I can't pass on a lemon. If anyone can shed some light or point us to something obvious that has been overlooked that would be great.

Its a low hour Mercury 40HP lightning 3 cylinder.

Couple of mates had those back in the early '70's. They worked at a servo and had more money than the rest of us. They bought a bunch of hot up parts for them, lighter flywheels, power pipe, different piston and barrels etc. and had them flying. Painted them flat black as well.

I don't know who did the hop up kits for them.

so if i buy stuff in the usa or the uk and get it sent to a freind or family member and they send it over as a gift this is how i get stuff now is seller wont send to aus.no gst?

They'll have to under value it like the old days, because you still have to pay GST on gifts. Or it could be a sample.
