For Sale / 1976 Yamaha YZ 125 Fuel Tank (suit HL replica)

A genuine 76 125 Aluminium Fuel Tank. Yes, it has some dings, but any competent panelworker should be able to get it smooth as a baby's bum again.
Don't bother with these ill fitting Indian copies, most of the time they arent even symetrical.
I'm asking $750 ono , how many others have you seen floating around recently. I paid this to get it from the states during the pandemic..

I personally think brakes should be pretty much free in these classes, as it's a safety issue, not a performance enhancing one. At least identify the best brake available in that era, and allow every bike to run it. The vintage sportscar / touring car classes , brakes are free to upgrade to any disk you like just, again for the safety issue. And I think pebble beach concourse restoration type shows don't deduct points for upgraded braking systems.

Try the VM 36/4 with the powerjet.. supposedly you take 25% off of the main jet and the powerjet starts drawing from a spigot off the bowl when it comes on pipe and makes a hell of a difference. I've also see a guy put 'shutters' in the intake of a carb to good effect on a dt

I'm sure I saw a 350 tank in this exact colour on Ebay the other day.. Its hard to get exact colours unless you find NOS tins of Honda paint. Or your other option (especially when its a metallic or candy colour like alot of these late 60s / early 70s Hondas were) is something like House of Kolor which as we all know ain't cheap..
I like these SL350 tanks for vintage scrambler builds and even CB track bikes to save on weight, and they're always (well at the moment anyway!) still affordable.

Yeah, I don't trust the PVL units, seen too many motors burnt up from them.

not only do you get CDI ignition, you can convert to 12volt at the same time.

The Selletra units are good, as they make pretty much all the inner rotor units in the first place for a myriad of bikes, they are more up to date with making sure their units are fit for purpose.

Nah, don't believe the hype..
Battery technology might get better maybe 10 - 12% in the next 20 years, they're  already pretty much the best they can be right about now.There won't be any quantum leap in battery technology as much as the creators try to hype it.

There will always be room for petrol-burning vehicles forever pretty much, and as long as they keep fuel affordable and as long as I can still ride my bikes and go racing on the weekends, I'm down with having an EV. I mean if you only commute around the city (says max 40 - 50 k theremiut and back to get to/from work, its gonna be cheaper than a internal combustion car) and there are cars  on sale now like certain mitsubishis that the EV option is the same price as the petrol car.

As before, as long as I can still get fuel for my bikes and they dont outlaw powersports, I don't mind.
 
I doubt it will go electric as it will take tinkering away, there wont be any messing around with gearing and sprockets etc, or engine mods, every bike will be the same.. I dont think crowds will be down with that, and the noise is half the draw of these events.
 
Anyway, I sure hope I'm right in 20 - 30 years time.

Hi there

I'm just going to use Preston Petty yamaha IT type fenders as If they get damaged (doubtful) they arent a rare commodity and they do them in a blue that I like with the enduro numberplate headlight to match. That way the only thing I've got to paint is the tank. I'm pretty sure tank is stock XL, I will probably use a Honda MR175 / 250 tank as they are 3.5 gallon as compared to 2.5 which is a little small for me.

Pity the guy committed suicide, or I / we'd be able to ask him personally..
He also did Champion frames which was higher end competition flattrack focussed.
Redline was more a recreational bike brand.. Their XR75  (which was one of the first bikes they made frames for) kitted bikes now commonly go for over 10k in good condition.

I'm going to have my 350 fitted with the 412 kit, But I do not want to scrimp on carbies this time. I dont mind if I have to spend $150 on a genuine mikuni (not set on one just yet though). peace of mind compared to buying a chinese PWK and having nothing but trouble and heartbreak with it and trying everything to get it to go.

Some sources tell me to go with the 38, some the 36.. What say you?

(Btw this bike will see the majority of it's riding on the road, so if a smaller carb nets me better part throttle response, so be it!

I dont think you will find many if any dirt bike inline axle 38mm forks. I am not aware of any common ones. Some Kawasaki KZ road bikes use 38mm inline axle forks which are disc brake. 77-78 Suzuki TS250 are 35mm inline axle and so are 76 RM125. 76-78 TT500 and 76-79 XT500 are 36mm inline axle. i think there may be Marzocchi 38mm inline axle forks from late 70's to early 80's but they are most likely going to be road bike forks too.

Actually , I found 83 XT550K forks which are 38mm (which will suit the period look of the bike as the IT forks are just too long for it)  along with their triple clamps, I will be using them to mount an IT 490 wheel (yes, checked - same 15mm axle diameter) along with its dual leading shoe brake, also IT wheel for the rear. And I'm more than sure there are springs and cartridge emulators available for these forks or some that could be made to work..

There IS thinking involved in this process, mate - as well as  a lot of dumb luck. I must admit many things have just fell into place nicely, it's like it were meant to be...
