Suzuki / RM 125 N/T CDI unit
« on: February 18, 2014, 07:47:56 PM »
Good evening all
Just would like to know if anyone here have a good or bad experience with  CDI units fom here. They offer one for RM 125 X
http://www.hpi.be/applistgall.php?select=CDI .
I am looking for a replacement CDI unit for my RM 125 N. I know that a NOS CDI units can be found on e-bay  but even NOS ones are 30 something years old now. With old electronics may be a bit of gamble to spent $150 or so dollars for NOS one that may last for a few months or so.
I am looking at what else is available. Above mentioned CDI is a modern unit with modern electronics. It is for RM 125 X but i am sure it will work with RM 125 N/T. I am looking at one mentioned above because it can be just bolted on so i dont have to modify old or make new brackets.
Also are there any other known modern CDI units that will fit and work correctly on RM 125N/T
Thank you for your help

CZ / CZ 380 spark plugs
« on: January 21, 2014, 02:42:32 PM »
Can anyone please tell me what is correct replacement  spark plug for 1975 CZ 380 Falta. I am asking for my uncle. He finaly run out of PAL spark plugs. Bike is stock 75 CZ380 Falta. That is PAL ignition, coil, Jikov carburetor and stock pipe as far as i can remember. He mentioned this last time when i talked to him. Is there a replacement spark plug that will work. The original PAL plug as far as i can remember had flat bottom of thread, not the usual one where the electrode is sticking out. Are there any plugs from NGK, Bosch, Champion etc that will just screw in. He does not want to modify head or use washers.
Can anyone help please?

Suzuki / 76 RM125 piston in 79 RM125 cylinder
« on: July 22, 2013, 04:07:53 PM »
Just would like to know forum's opinion on using piston from 76 RM 125 in 79 RM 125 cylinder. I have 79 RM125 cylinder on last over size(56) and would like to know if 76 RM 125 piston would fit. It would allow another overbore or two and would take bore to let say 57. Cylinder liner is about 3mm thick with 56 mm piston in it so there may be enough for another overbore or two. I know that piston pin in 76 is the same diameter as 79 but thats all. Dont have 76 piston to compare with 79. Any ideas? Anybody ever attempted this?
Thank you for your help

Tech Talk / Brake lining repair
« on: June 15, 2013, 03:35:32 PM »
Hello
Just would like to ask if anybody here knows anything about having  brake lining inside a wheel hub repaired. My drum is worn out and I do not want to buy another one that may be just as bad. I know that some Bultacos have hard chromed brake drums instead of conventional cast iron lining. I am considering having my brake drum lining hard chromed and machined to correct size.
Any ideas?

Tech Talk / How long will cylinder on my bike last?
« on: June 13, 2013, 05:56:37 PM »
Just would like to know your opinion on how long will cylinder on my RM 125 last. I have one cylinder on its last oversize(56) that is on the bike and a spare one on second(55) oversize. How many seasons can i expect these cylinders to last? I dont race, just ride for fun one, two weekends a month. I use Castrol TTS at 30:1. Just looking at buying one more cylinder for good price. Should i bother geting another one or will what i have keep me going for a while?

Tomas here ,joined a few weeks ago. Like motocross and motocross bike since i was a kid. Never owned a motocross bike, but used to ride my uncles 75 CZ380 Falta for many years back in Czechoslovakia. Great bike.
About a year ago i finaly got my own bike. I am restoring a 79 suzuki rm 125 and hoping to ride it soon. Want to have only one bike as i dont have much space but it is geting out of control. Already have 2 spare motors. Just in case.
Also this is great place to share ideas about how to do rebuilds, repairs and where to ride. Vintage motocross here is well organized and have a lots of supporters. I am in Sydney for now but will be moving to Perth in a couple of months. It is geting harder to find a good job around Sydney. According to Pre85vmx web site, there are a few good vmx friendly tracks around Perth so i will give it a go.
Have a good day
