Gentlemen and Lady(ies),

I have been a visitor to OZVMX for a few years now and finally got around to registering. I am constantly amazed and impressed by the diversity of the membership and the knowledge base that exhibits itself amongst the contributors.

I’m just past half way to the telegram from the queen (do they still do that?) but I learnt to ride on a Honda CT90 ag bike- them bought an ex short circuit AJS350 as a 14 year old ( this was just pre- mini bike days) them built up an A7 BSA paddock bike (after the AJS spat its second gearbox)and finally got into Japanese bikes via a DT360 Yamaha. Had a succession (short succession when I hear of the collections of some members) of MX and trail bikes past that (even a couple of road bikes but that’s really all too scary now) including a 75 360 Husky that became probably the first Australian Aberg replica in 1979- (fabricated from pictures in American Dirt Bike magazine when Abergs first prototype hit the tracks.) Still have that one- a little bit sad in the frame department now- it had one too many throw aways.

Did a bit of MX, Enduros and road racing on MX bikes then gave it all away when I “grew up” and just did social stuff since then. Currently have a nice original 81 Maico 490 MX, a pristine if not totally standard wide ratio 81 490 Maico that resides in my lounge room, the “Aberg” Yamaha and from a moment of utter madness a Montessa Cota 348.

I live in SE Queensland but currently work all over Australia pretty much where ever the airline ticket takes me every second weekend which means that despite having started trying to do QVMX rounds probably 2 years ago now I always find myself somewhere else every weekend and it is really not viable to do at the moment.

Welcome Norm. Just looking at your Husky framed Yamaha reminds me just how much the HL is based on the Husky. Do you still have it?

Yes- still have it - it even still goes- stirred the neighbours up yesterday with it but I had a really serious 4th gear flip out on it a few years ago where all the planets must have aligned just right and it just kept on end for ending for what seemed like to be fore-ever.  It ended up with rear sub frame torn off, front down tube cracked at bottom engine mount, seat and tank destroyed, bent forks and pretty much every thing else bent or wrecked. So it all got repaired but I think the frame is now too old for any sort of serious usage.
It had semi legal NSW rego till about five-six years ago.

Yes it is/was pretty loud- Arthur Blizzard kicked me off the track at Oran Park a long time ago because he reckoned it drowned out every other bike on the track at a road race meeting. Something to do with the Waggot can grind I think.
Where did you see it?
