Got a Maico owner manual here from Nov 1975 that list 38mm forks.

The last external spring forks where on the 1974 4 speed models. The first 5 speed models had internal springs but I'm not sure on the size. Most likely 38mm from what I can see from spares parts info. That would mean they where available early 75.

I should add that the external spring forks are 36mm. The 38mm went up to 1979 and in 80 we got the 42mm.

Thanks , So we can conclude 38 mm ( actually 37.80 )  1975 -1979 . I will make a batch of fork springs  31.5 mm OD by 560 mm long . This will give the option to run the PD valves or a spacer .

The travel of the forks changed across the years. 76 had 220mm, 77 had 245mm and 78 had 254mm. Not sure on the 75 travel.

Thanks Sleepy for that valuable info . I have designed the springs to take 260 mm travel incl Preload  and PD Valve . People without the Valve will have to use a 18 mm spacer to make up for it .
