VERi Beaufort Vinduro - Sunday 27 May 2018
« on: April 30, 2018, 08:51:52 PM »
This awesome event returns, with more of the pine forests and scenic bush trails that riders have come to love. We're planning some changes to the course we used last year to keep things interesting!

Riding on Sunday 27 May only (no Saturday course available), but there are plenty of trails in the area to explore - grab yourself a map and go nuts! We ask that you stay off any arrowed trails you might come across, and definitely stay out of the pine plantations prior to Sunday.

All bikes will have to be registered (full, recreational or classic permit) and riders must have a current motorcycle licence. Must be pre 88 models of course.

More details will be published here, and on our website and Facebook as the event draws closer.

Getting to the 2018 Beaufort vinduro:

The start/finish/camping/pits/etc is located at the Raglan Recreation Reserve in Raglan.

From the service station in Beaufort on the Western Hwy, turn towards Amphitheatre and Raglan onto Havelock St, and then turn left onto King St. Follow King St over the railway tracks and out of town. King St becomes Main Lead Rd. Main Lead Rd then becomes Raglan-Elmhurst Rd once you pass the Amphitheatre Rd turn off on the right. Raglan Reserve is on the right not far on.

If travelling from Elmhurst direction, take the Raglan-Elmhurst Road south until you reach Raglan. In this case the reserve will be on the left as you are leaving Raglan.

If travelling from Ararat on the Western Highway you can turn left at the Eurambeen-Raglan Road, then right at Grant Lane, and right again onto Main Lead Road. The reserve will be on your left a short distance thereafter. Travellers from Ararat can also continue to Beaufort and take Main Lead Road as described above.

The VicRoads Country Directory (8th edition) reference is Map 57, G7.

There'll be signage in Raglan on Saturday & Sunday.

See you there!

Some details about the event itself:

* Section 1: to the Chute Check = 8 kms. (time for riders/mates to regroup, sort problems etc with a bitumen road back to the start if necessary.
* Section 2: HVP pines and some bush = 20 kms.
* Section 3: Mt Cole  = 40 kms.
* Section 4: HVP pines and Red Hill Road home to Raglan =15 kms.

Refuel will mostly likely be at Check 2 (28 kms).

Please note that all details are subject to change.

Also, erstwhile club volunteers Mick & Rach will be sweating over a BBQ for breakfast and lunch on Sunday (only).

We did some track reconnaissance yesterday and conditions look great. After recent rain dust will not be a problem. Looking at the forecast I don't reckon that will change ie showers early in the week, then cool and mostly cloudy with a sunny Saturday, cloudy on Sunday

Peter Drakeford, John Searby, Colin Harper & John 'Tex' O'Brien have been working hard this week marking out the course for Sunday's Beaufort Vinduro.

There will be some fantastic riding on offer, including new terrain not previously used. The total length will be a bit longer than previously estimated, closer to 110 kms! We will probably have two fuel stops along the way, so if range is an issue for your bike, bring two fuel containers.

It should also be noted that we will be trialling a more streamlined marker- arrow system at Beaufort this year. This will be explained at the Riders Briefing on Sunday morning.

"trialling a more streamlined marker- arrow system at Beaufort this year." :o this means there is an arrow at the start and a stop sign at the end.... ::)

Arrowing was great, course was superb, weather ideal and the hamburgers spot on. Great day at Beaufort and a good turn out with a good mix of bikes. i was off my game and soon after the start clipped mr gday and sent him into the scrub :o..i backed that up by driving straight into a fallen tree in front of a few blokes and sprawling all over the place...muscled through a couple of guys on a steep hill only to get balked by the guy just near the top and speared off into the scrub :( exhaust manifold flange came loose and i had to effect trailside repairs (must have left the loctite off those ::)) had to limp into the last fuel stop with less than a litre and got lost near the end wasting valuable 2- :-[ it was one of those days... but still great fun as VERI can provide. looking forward to the next one...(where is that loctite bottle?)

it was one of those days.

Don't be too hard on yourself - you definitely saved me some time on Section 3 by kindly pointing out that I'd missed the same corner as you!  ;D

What a great ride! Bike was running poorly, but I still had a great time - I had a low-speed fall thanks to one of the hundreds of slippery logs across the track, and a heart-in-the-mouth moment on a long downhill, but all good.

Those pine sections - how bloody good were they?!  8) Definitely a highlight. Big thanks to the plantation owner for letting us ride thru there.

The "beerduro" the night before was a highlight too. I think this aspect might be becoming a 'thing' as they say!

Great ride with great people. You can't get much better really.
