Will a twin shock Dt175 accept an early monoshock engine?
« on: January 03, 2018, 02:11:41 PM »
Just wondering if the later model 78, 79, 80 etc monoshock engines will fit into the earlier twin shock DT frames? Thanks

I have a twinshock DT175 bike  , a few years ago I had a mono shock DT175 engine and looked at doing what you suggest
as far as I can remember the mountings were not even close to lining up and I abandoned the idea.
{ I don't think there are even many interchangeable parts between engines }
However as has been suggested , if you can cut & weld then anything is possible.

To clarify - the bike I have is a DT175C , but  I didn't know the exact model year of the  monoshock type DT175 engine I looked at fitting

the DT175A,B,C  engine cases  do look visually the same as TY175/125 and YZ125C,X ,  but I think the YZ & TY are all 6 speed {could be wrong} whereas the DT175ABC are 5 speed , so I don't know if cases are different internally to suit the extra gear ?
 over the years I have had all the different engines , but never really got round to seeing what was interchangeable apart from clutches , which I found there was quite a few different ones .

I know that the early monoshock DT175 (EFG) motor will fit in a TY175 frame except for needing a small dent in the bottom frame rail where a screw head lug sticks out a bit under the magneto.
I've got a DT175A motor here but have not yet tested it for fit in a TY175 frame. I had assumed until now that a DT175 ABCD motor would also fit in a TY175 frame. The TY175 motor is a variant on the YZ125C and YZ125X

A it175d goes into an dt175b or c twin shock frame even though some on here said it would need altered front mounts which it didnt

I was thinking the mono dt175 engines had the swing/arm bolt through the back of the case but looking on partzilla apparently not!!. I'm sure i spouted ages ago about the trouble we had at work with 'S/arm bolts' stuck in the case, so now i'm buggered if i know what i was thinking of, but happened on something [farm bike] pretty regular. Must've been stuck in the spacer through the 'mono' S/arm & had to drill in from both sides to clear the frame--took a wile & lots of drill resharpening lol plus a realy big slow drill we had for honing cylinders or something, big bugger with a handle out each side to push on. All because of lack of lubing on assembly pretty much.
