Ktm 504 1983 Mxc or not ?
« on: March 24, 2017, 06:54:30 PM »
I can get my hands on a ktm 504 Mxc 1983 rotax if I want but need some advise or a push.
I've done some web research and found only good stuff about them they are rear only 40 came to oz one thing that makes it more worth it.
I Have read engine parts can be sourced from a few places in the states and in England but not cheap.
The rotax engines are popular in the states in flat track racing and Ron wood is the go to man over there .
They have a rubber belt instead of a timing chain but if it replaced when needed no
Probs.
I found a couple of places that still do
Plastics etc for it .
And the Mxc model has bigger forks , diffrent cam and crank than the GS model.
But the specs on the net says it weighs 156kg ouch not sure if this is right  ???
I still think it would be the best pre 90 four stroke .
What do you guys think , buy it or not ? Then I wouldn't mind a CR250 87 or 88 ? :o

get it, have it for a bit have some big fourstroke fun then if you get over it flog it. I had a 510 twin shocker which I rode numerous events on, went like hell, sounded way cool loved it then raced the 400 twostroke and soon after a bloke offered me good money for the 510 and I thought yep, move it on, time for the twoie again.

I didn't think of that 80-85 husky good point , but I've always raced old four strokes so I'm used to the heavy gals , but the KTM is mono shock not twin shocks like my other bikes so I might prefer it over by other bikes .
But as you say if I get sick of it flog it off..

Hi Dennis
I would use it for vintage mx , I haven't heard a bad thing about them on here or other forums .
Your tank on your 504 looks smaller than the 83 504 .
Thanks for the photos .

i have a 84 600 that ive had for bout 7yrs .yes they are heavy but a good allrounder ive used it for mx,dirt track even give it a run on the road race track at broardford a few years ago.i can no longer ride on the dirt anymore but i would never get rid of that bike.had a 83 504 when new put a 18 tooth front sprocket and universal tyres on it and road from sydney to coffs harbour, changed sprocket and tyres when i got there and road the trails for a week then road back to sydney no probs .great motor the rotax but HEAVY.

Thanks for the tips guys ,
I've only ridden heavy bikes so the ktm will feel the norm.
