Vets MXdN at Farleigh Castle 2017
« on: February 01, 2017, 06:23:11 PM »
Is any-one going to the Vets MXdN event this year to ride?  If so, what do you know about insurance cover (mandatory), where to get it and its cost?  The ACU offers some at 220 pounds (about $380), but wondering if something else is available that will cover other events while over there.

Ali - check out Bupa - I believe you can buy additional insurance through them.

I've ridden there twice and each time I could buy insurance at the track. I think only about $60, but the last time was 2007 so may have changed. Contact the organisor. I insured through AON for NZ for racing in the Bert Munro in November. MA can give you the contact

When l raced the Isle of Man back in the 90's l used AON, cost me $600, when l rode Glen Helen last year l 'ran the gauntlet' and just used a standard holiday insurance; that only covers motorcycle accidents up to 125cc; so l told Jodie, if l crash, l'm riding a CR125, not a CR480 :-)

I know some will say no, but ask MA.

They should be able to arrange a clearance from them so you can use your current licence and then can arrange suitable insurance coverage.

That is probably exactly what Col had to race in NZ.

AON is MA's Insurance broker.

Contact MA.

You will need a start permission from MA and this will be co ordinated with the ACU.

MA can provide the appropriate insurance cover.

at the insurance seminar we had with MA/MAWA last year it was made clear a lot of your coverage comes from Medicare or your private insurer and MA looks from there.  Some insurers will not cover you to the same degree outside your state as within and hence the comment was made that people travelling, to let's say the Nats interstate, were getting Bupa top up insurance.  I would not rely 100% upon MA coverage because of the way the system relies upon your own coverage.

Just remember the current MA insurance is only (and always has been) basic cover for death and permanent disability.

I'm sure MA can arrange or advise what you need or want.

That's not correct.

You will need a start permission from MA and this will be co ordinated with the ACU.

If you go to the MA website , go to insurance .

There is a product offered through AON / MA for riders competing O/S. Open the link and it will show the coverage and costs associated with engaging the policy.

We have used this as recent as last year in the UK and it represents good coverage and value for money.
