KX was a rocker arm  as with Suzuki's Full Floater, first true rising rate linkage rear suspension was on the 82 Cobas MR-1. The works RM/KX 125's used in the All Japan Championships had rocker arm rear ends in 1980. CR 125 had the Pro-Link in 81

Anything that doesn't directly connect one end of the shock to the swing arm, and the other end of the shock to the frame, surely has to be considered a linkage?

Vincent was just a mono, well they had two shocks under seat really. No linkage.

This is a picture of Brad Lackey racing a Kawasaki 443 at Sittendorf Austria in 1979

Definitely not a twin shock.
