Classic Scramble Club Inc
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:44:59 PM »
The extraordinary meeting of the Classic Scramble Club Inc called last month, was held last night, and for procedural reasons was followed by a general meeting. The open positions of President, Vice President and Assistant Secretary have been filled by John Kempers, Mat Pagdin and Bernard Andrivon respectively. There was also a motion passed asking for the Secretary, Ross Martin, who was not present, to show cause why he should not stand down.

Members have had their say and we now have a functional leadership group and assurance that this years scheduled race meetings will go ahead. The Moyston round has been brought forward a week and will now run on June 5th. This will give the members heading to Harrisville QLD for the Australian Classic Nationals on the 18th and 19th more preparation time.

For the last 2 years the committee had no riders on it,  now there are several. The new enthusiasm for the club's core purpose will be reflected in many improvements.
The Club's key resource, the track at Lismore should see more activity with plans for 2 race meeting annually with one run in the reverse direction.
In the immediate future the track will be ripped.

That is really good news, time to think about joining the club again to show support (even though it's a bit hard to get to all the races from the other side of the State).

And anybody else out there who was a member in the past - time to join up again and get to a few races and if you can't chuck a leg over the old bike join up anyway as a solid show of support and encouragement.

The "meeting" held last weekend was not an official meeting of the Classic Scramble Club, as it was not called in the manner listed in the club constitution, and not all members were informed.
Any decisions made at this gathering do not apply to the club, and will not be acted on.
The Committee are interested in running quality events for the members, and are happy to take suggestions from these members.
The club calendar was set at the start of the year, and the committee is running to this calendar.
The actions of some members and non members are making these actions most difficult, but not impossible.
I hope to see a full turn out of members at the Port Campbell round.

This "Constitution" sounds way too complicated, was it written by a retired QC or something?  Jokes aside I'm not a CSC member but I've heard on the grapevine about the troubles that the rank & file members are having getting a functional committee in charge.  The response from Jasper reads like he's using (or abusing?) loopholes in the constitution to maintain a grip on power.  It's just a vintage motorcycle club, not a political party.  Good luck to the CSC members in trying to sweep this type of bad attitude out of the CSC committee cos I think that's what it's gonna take to get your club back.

The response from Jasper, who I believe is Ross Martin, the Club's secretary, typifies his administration.

The CSC Inc. has a booklet of Rules and Regulations, which is not formally a constitution,  that are the sensible thoughts of a group of practical blokes who like old bikes, and running scrambles for them on natural terrain tracks. This booklet is backed by  Consumer Affairs Victoria and the Model Rules for an Incorporated Association.

The Classic Scramble Club is an incorporated body, and uses a formal generic based constitution that is set down and approved by Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Some club members may think that this does not apply to them, but this is not true.
As an Incorporated Body we must comply with Government regulations.

That sounds like it is going to be a good thing?  Ripping is great for modern MX, but I'd have thought grasstrack is far better for VMX racing, bikes and riders?

The track at Lismore is a made track that follows the natural undulations except for a couple of sections where it has been raised slightly to make it more all weather. It doesn't need much but a bit of smoothing and softening of the surface in some of the flat turns is appreciated. There are a few of us there with rider and bike combined ages around 100 there. The natural terrain track at Gellibrand was smoothed last year after many years of use and continues to be a safe satisfying rideb.

If a incorporated society  then rules / constitution has to be adhered to or changed at a proper AGM in a way stated in the constitution.
For those who wish to "hi jack" a club why do they not start there own club? or is that to hard?

Ah, The lovely aroma of club politics going toxic.

Despite virtually zero knowledge of the CSC and it's workings, I reckon I can predict what happens next with quite a degree of accuracy...

Good luck everyone, it's going to be an ugly ride.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

I hope for the clubs sake that the new blood gets it's way Marcus. The last AGM I attended was a joke with amendments being made to the constitution when no one knew what the constitution was or even where it was......a bit like police loosing evidence that could exonerate the accused!

Arrogance.....A way of life for the those that having nothing further to learn.

That sort of thing is one of the many administrative headaches the new committee will face. The Club is operating legally using the 2003 rules. The later rule amendments where never submitted to CAV as the law requires.
