Bultaco AMAL Carb question???

Im working on a Bultaco Pursang with a AMAL carb. My experience is with Japanese stuff so AMAL are new to me.

The little plunger on the side of the carb which im assuming is like a primer has a 4.5mm hole in the side of the plunger casing?? When you prime it the fuel comes out the hole. My question is..... was this a mod?? Is this normal?? Iv looked at other AMAL carbs and none of them have this hole. The bike still starts and runs ok. .....thoughts??

Which Amal is it, MK1 or 2. A photo would help a lot.

Probably a concentric MK1 by the sounds of it.

Yes the little doodad is pushed until fuel pisses out of the hole. You are then ready to start.

The MK1 concentric wears main jets, so if it's an old carby you'd do well to get a new main jet for it.

Yea, I wish it was easy to uploads pics, its beyond me.
 Iv figured it out, someone has drilled it out and fitted a nipple on it so it can run a overflow hose, I found the nipple stuck in the end of one off the hoses.
 Is there any way of identifying what model carb it is? It has L/1036 stamped on the right hand side, with the number 11 under that. Is there a place in OZ that can supply parts for these things? Thankyou!!!

That sounds like a sensible mod putting a hose on the overflow.
That model number if a MK1 36mm. Bultaco Parts Australia at Toongabbie Vic or Don Newell in Brisbane should be able to help you.

L/handed 1000 series (2" mounting centres)36mm concentric, needle jets wear,not mains,(sawing action from needle /throttle action  ),will find it's set up is twostroke carby,no emulsifying holes on needle jet,(& most importantly it's metered/measured from top of jet,4 stroke n/jets measure 1/2 way down inside,a trap if your'e not aware of this feature),prob got an "O" needle (std twoee), cutaway on slide 2-2.5??,hth,

Also try zburlington Fuel Company in UK. They make replica Amals. I went down the track of having all original Amal stuff as well as points ignition on my Bultacos. Got sick of the mess and kickstart ing forever. I know run a Mikuni and CDI. J

I paid $120 landed ex USA Pre jetted brand new Mikuni. Bolted it on started first kick. J PS also purchased adaptor plate for another $30 from memory. J
