Murray Williams Sidecar Cup
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:10:04 PM »
      PRESS RELEASE
Australian Sidecarcross Association,
2014 Murray Williams Sidecar Cup

The Australian Sidecarcross Association (ASA) is proud to announce the inaugural running in 2014 of the Murray Williams Sidecar Cup.  This event will showcase Sidecar Motocross as  seen in the yesteryears with the development of a premier Sidecar Motocross Race Day in South Australia.
The ASA President, Mr. Rocky Warren said, “The ASA have worked tirelessly in developing an event with a race format with generous rewards to that was experienced from the 1960’s through to the 1980’s.  At the same time there was an overwhelming need to acknowledge the efforts of a true Legend of the sport, Murray Williams and his long time passenger Wayne Kearvell, who together won many MX sidecar titles Although  both recently retired from Motocross Sidecars they are still passionate supporters of our sport.”

As a result, and as a tribute to Murray Williams, the ASA will be holding the inaugural “Murray Williams Sidecar Cup” in place of the ASA titles, on October 26th 2014. In addition, the Wayne Kearvell Trophy will be introduced to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of a sidecar passenger at this event, regardless of the class they are riding.
This year the event will be held at Murray Bridge, with over $3,000.00 in total prize money shared across all classes, with the exception of Junior Sidecars, who will be awarded trophies for the Junior Murray Williams Cup.  Racing will consist of 3 rounds of racing for all the usual classes from Juniors, pre 1968 through to the Modern A & B Grade. The final event of the day will be the “Murray Williams Sidecar Cup”. It will consist of 3 races of 4 laps each, back to back, which will allow anyone to have a real shot at taking out the Murray Williams Cup and taking home the first prize of $500.00.  Prize money will place back to 6th.
This is an event you will not want to miss with Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms available from the Motorcycling South Australia and ASA Websites. This event is an ideal opportunity for the interstate riders to ride the MA Australian title at Horsham (Vic) or the SA Historic Championships at ACUSA Park (SA) the weekend prior, and then venture over the following weekend and earn some valuable prize money.
A feature of this event will be a spirited demonstration of many of the past retired Sidecar racers and their passengers, on both historic and modern sidecars. The ASA already have a strong commitment from the “Legends of Past years” who we all followed as young kids in the 60’s 70’s, 80’ & 90’s.
Racing will include:
Pee Wee Sidecar Demonstrations,
Legends of Yesteryear Demonstrations
Junior Sidecars
Pre 1968, 1975, 1985 & 1990 Historic sidecar classes
Road Trial and Modern Sidecars
October 26 th, 2014, Murray Bridge MX Track, Old Princes Highway, Monarto, SA.

Looks at the moment like Qld will field maybe up to 1/2doz teams for this event with some driving the tow vehicles and the others flying down and busing in.
You blokes down there better get ready, so here's a list.
1/ No Southick (Coopers is OK)
2/ No warm beer of any kind
3/ Not too much red wine
4/ A case of Bundy cans for Jamie (actually...that should be no.1)
5/ Not too much dust, a bit is OK
6/ Friendly smiles for all visitors. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Im really looking forward to catchin up with you guys (and Girls) again, we will try to show as much hospitality and look after you as well as you did for us, but your a tuff act to follow. So
1) you may have to drink south walk after the mozzie piss and coops runs out.
2) we are not poms so who the fluck that calls them selvs an Aussie would drink warm beer, but then again faced with cold water or warm beer ( I think Ill go the warm beer)
3) what the???? not to much red wine? why ? cant ya handle ya piss?
4) logisticly thats unsound  cos it wont be fresh by the time ya get it, do you know how far Bundaberg is from SA ::)
5) what? its Australia, ya gunna be in the dryest state in the dryest country in the world!
6) smile wont be hard to smile more than you, but then again trying to smile more than Adam could be a big ask, but Im up for it.
but all bullshit aside, we are looking forward to catchin up and let me know if I can help in any way ;) cheers

It was great to see our sport reach a bit of 'main-stream' media and we need to keep that momentum if we can.
You can see sidecarcross in TV adds in Holland for banks and even vacuum cleaners!!
We really need to race you guys more often and have to find a way to make that happen. My only clue is we need a good backer to support maybe a 3 meeting series with races here, there and in between and also find some way of making it for both moderns and at least one class of oldies and juniors if not a full "spectacular' type event, though that would be fantastic...3 spectaculars or Murray Williams cup type events in 3 states.
We need to find a venue in NSW that we each can travel to.
Food for thought oh enlightened one, seek and go forth, just don't miss a shift or you'll be 5th :o
