thanks Shelp,

just sent Dave a message, cant get him to answer from an email address i have/had, shall see what he wants for it.....

What makes you want more out of an RM500? They made good power, easy to use which is THE most important thing on a big girl. If i still cared about lap times i'd stick a good 250 engine in mine, i am/was always around 5 secs a lap quicker on a RM250Z versus RM465z and faster still on a '85 kx250!  500s are fun though and i am GLAD i got to ride them against the big boys back then, at least when i got flogged it was by a fast guy!!!

yer Im the same ,the smaller it is the faster I ride it, probobably cos Im a short arse ;) the RM500 donk is going into a sidecar the reason I chose the rm is they had the most low down and mid range out of the pack but are 7 to 10 hp down, am just doing a look see on who knows what in the preperation stakes (get in early) the most inportant things are suspension and handleing ;)
ya havnt got a rear wheel havya ???

nope, looking for spare rear hub myself, ebay has em but more than i will pay for a spare!

With your 500 in a side car, CUBES will be the go surely?  I rode a 465 with a 3mm stroke increase 30 years ago, i still remember what it was like, it was also ported, WAY too much power, they ended up putting stock-ish barell back on it and it was nice then, but i was still quicker on a stock engine. GO the stroke route and try, it boosted the 465 bottom and mid up a fair amount and then maybe some porting after that.  Personally i dont reckon i would use a rm500 motor, parts are getting hard to find, i would go any of the other japs given the choice, trouble is i have Yellow in my blood, well yellow, green and now Maico!

If you hve your 500 head off, any chance of getting me a chamber volume? in ML??

on the suzukirm500 website is an interesting article on the major big ones for theyear across the dyno - the RM was so close to the CR it wasn't funny - certainly not 7-10 behind?

that is great to hear, because everyone was always saying how it was a pitty how they didnt produce the goods and were the last cab off the rank, but a fullfloater and the total torque charts suggest differant, anywho will still look at all and apraise  the situation when we get it rolling  ;) all I know is good things can come from a mere 40hp if its done right ;)

Tremendous motor,
By modern standards and documented on this forum Combustion Chamber has a few free HP
Dean Burt has done some of the hard work .
When I sold the last of the D's as old stock we supplied a 2nd head gasket to knock off the compression
It then became easy to start, as gentle as a PE400 but still with a decent hit.
