'76 ISDT results
« on: January 14, 2012, 06:14:01 PM »
Hello all,

I am looking for a magazine reference or site that might have the '76 (Zeltweg, Austria) ISDT results.
Specifically, I have read in an old UK magazine that 3 Suzuki PE250B's were entered.
Trying to find more details about any PE's entered.

Why? I have written a bit about PE's here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_PE_series

COOL!  Just the sort of thing I have been looking for.

I also found Motorcycle Mechanics, December 1976, which says the PE riders were Ted Thompson, Ernie Page and Brian Higgins.

Many thanks!
Luke

Thats a little harsh NSR! That comment is beneath you Noel but I excuse you as I believe it was made out of petty jealousy!   :-* ;D ;D ;D ;D

Seriously,I love this period of enduro. Lots of machine variety, plenty of development and innovation, national pride and gutsy efforts. There was always a story to come out of the ISDT, good or bad. The closest equivalent these days, to me, is the Dakar.

I drool every time I see those Italian masterpieces. I was given a CD with hundreds of photos of purely Italian motocross and enduro bikes. I should start a new thread showing some of them......

I couldn't agree more, it was the coming of age of the proper enduro bike and development went ahead in leaps and bounds. ..................now, back to PE Suzuki's. ;)

one of many videos available from the 1976 ISDT - but of interest because immediately the video starts, it show an IT400C (1 of 4 entered) in the Parc Ferme, and the next scene is one of the PE250's (no 267)..

Enjoy..   ;D

West German Zundapp rider Eduard Hau sounds familiar-Eddy Hau rode to victory a few times on the Dakar-gotta be the same guy for sure.

Thanks everybody. The ISDT results of '76-'80 have been most interesting! What a fabulous period. Still digging around, so if you find more, put it up!

As John Morgan, head of Team Suzuki in the USA back then, told me of the PE - "a bike that turned the woods yellow in the US".

I've got a book at home on the ISDT - give descriptions and highlights from every ISDT from 1913 to 1980.

1913 was the first "International", but it wasn't a stand alone event in 1913 - First stand alone event was supposed to be 1914, in Eastern France of all places....  International events that year (WWI) saw it postponed.

My favourite from the book was the 1939 event, held in Austria in September....  And yes, the British teams competed (including the Army team)...  So they were competing in Austria when war was declared...  Hahaha - Clerk of Course was an SS Officer!

The British pulled out on Day 5 from memory, and the German army gave them an escort all the way back to France.  They had to stop at army depots full of German tanks etc, to refuel their cars and bikes because the army had comandeered all the petrol...
