Jimson  They are easy to get parts for, and handle well . Typical small bore they loved to rev, also  served me well in my younger years and gave me little trouble.
PE 1980 = T has an alloy bash plate on the bottom frame rails
PE 1981 = X had side rails to deflect debri in place of the bash plate

good bikes. would be the best twin shock PE 175 but are a lot better with aftermarket shocks though. engine is pretty good. 82-84 full floater models had more top end but lost a lot of bottom end. as long as you know its a 175 and are happy with that you'd be happy but most guys find they want more power and add a 250 or 400 PE to their collection aswell! what else do you want to know?

some of the 175 T/X's had problems with jetting from standard and required fiddling to get right and didnt seem to run as nicely out of the box like the 250 and 400

I owned a string of PE 175's.  N, T & Z.  My bro had an X.  They were awesome enduro bikes in their day and with a good rider could beat anything else - IT175, XR (any capacity), KDX.  You had to rev them to get them on the boil though and charge hills hard.  Maintenance was easy and they were reliable.  Change the rings frequently to keep it fresh.

I always thought the best PE would be the Z with an X motor.  The X was the best combination of top end and bottom end in my view.  The 400 was really fun in the open but the 175 would kill it in the tight stuff in the bush.  Never rode a 250 so cant comment.

Aftermarket shocks would be an improvement though I never bothered (couldnt afford it) as I rode in the NZ bush mainly.  I would own one again.  They wouldnt be competitive in 250 evo VMX however
