You have to love Models with myth , The reality is their buckets of shite for racing and yes I have ridden them. One of my local club members had one plus XC 500's and would always protest that he could not holeshot on our baked out start straight back in the day. He finally worked out the problem.
I will say the same about the 81 KTM 495 which had the about the same HP plus related problems. Simply answer back in the day no tire could the power down. Fun for one lap and if thats your thing I get that , Power is fun and addictive. Everyone should ride at least one of these in there lives, Grin yes win no.

huskies won a huge amount in the 70s and 80s in off road racing... maybe not mx, but I don't think you can say theyre all shite for racing! even the autos won, although they  ate themselves and all the parts you throw at them.

the 500 huskies  aren't great but then again which two stroke  500  is? - a 84 cr500 honda is not my cup of tea or a yz490 for that matter

I'm working on Gally's 81 465 that he won the title on, it has a Dunlop 5.10x18 on the rear, interesting thing is they use to "fly" out the "works" tyres from the States for his/there's [Yamaha Australia] bikes to race on every couple of weeks.....and the tyre that's on the bike is like nothing you could buy over the counter....I don't think the Factory guy's had the same lack of traction problems all us wobblers had....the same stuff still goes on today.
QVMX.....Australia's #1 VMX club......leading the way.

most of Husky'ies open class titles were won on the 390 which is an ideal motor, something most people can open up a bit without getting into strife... but the top 10 demanded "more power" so husky answered and stuffed everything.

but one thing we are all in agreement on...nothing like watching the top boys wring a 500 out! ;D

Bids were $4k-$5k, so Jim's $5k-$6k in a stronger market was not far away.

Relisted on eBay and also unpriced (swap/trade) on Gumtree but with below comment.

WILL SWAP/TRADE FOR NISSAN PATROL UTE GQ/GU or LANDROVER DEFENDER UTE TO THE VALUE OF $12,000.00.

Me thinks the market is not ( never was) at $12k for this bike. What was it Darryl Kerrigan said....... ::)

Still a very nice unrestored example and would be nice to own. It's never going to be bought to be a race winner so it's price is more aimed at collectors.  $6k would be where it sits I reckon in this market that is cooling down.

Yes, seem to recall asking well into the the figure prices in the past. Most of those that were keenly interested in it last time offered have since bought or imported a better one for around or less than half the asking price.
