1980 XR250 MOD PROJECT
« on: April 16, 2012, 09:55:08 am »
Well I picked up a pretty decent 1980 XR250 today.  I am into modifying my projects and I have a few options for this bike.

I was recently given a 1978 CR250.  It is not complete...basically just a frame, front forks and tripple trees, fuel tank, swingarm and rear shocks.
Was thinking of maybe morphing the two together.

OR

I have a 1987 YZ250 rolling chassis, minus plastics, was thinking of putting my XR250 engine and cosmetics onto it.

Will post some pics shortly.

LOL I guess I think differently, they all sat outside for years and a few more won't hurt them lol

Depends on where he is, some of those cold climate areas have zero humidity.  I was visiting a mate in Colorado and spied what looked to be his brand spanking new Lincon welder out in the weather, and I said 'That will rot out there".  He replied with "Been sitting there for about 12 years"  It looked like he had bought it yesterday.

ya there is next to no humidity here, the Elsinore and Yamaha have both been sitting outside for 5 years plus

so people are thinking I should keep it all honda...........I am partial to this as well, except I do not have fenders, side panels or a seat.........I figured I could buy the plastics new.....and possibly fit my xr seat to it.  What do you guys figure?

The xr seat might be to buff  :P and bigger than a CR one unless you trim the xr seat down.
There would be a cr seat in that neck of the woods for sure bike parts over there are cheap as chips  ;)
compared to other countrys its just the postage costs ???
Good luck with the project be sure to post some pics  8)
I will take my first post back about putting the bikes in the shed  with NO humidity, then leave the buggers out in the snow. What would i know ...dont snow here :o

You can get a repro seat on US ebay item #400268162139 $159.99 U.S., made in vietnam, they have a steel base instead of the original plastic.
I got an XR75 one off them & it is well made, dont know how durable they are as i have not used it yet,it will be going on a bike that wont be used much, but they seem ok for the dough :)

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
