CR480 Fork Upgrade
« on: August 09, 2014, 03:54:45 PM »
Finally going to take on the CR480 fork rebuild.  I have all the parts and will start after I finish jetting the new carb.

I had tried an old damping rod hop-up trick that did not work out so well (welded up a few holes and opened up some others), hence the unmolested damping rods were needed.  All new bushings and seals, plus emulators should give the front end a sweet feel.

Hopefully next time we can keep the cable-tie away the triple-clamp  ;-)

Good to see you flying the Aussie flag on the lid when you were over in the US John.

What's the yarn about the cable tie?

Yeh Jay had modded the forks from someone elses say-so, there was virtually no comp or rebound damping, I noticed it before I headed out, riding it confirmed it  :-)

I was going to do the rebuild myself, but I can not seem to get the work bench cleared off.  I sent them to a local Race Tech specialist (same guy who did the forks on my RT-1) who will complete the job, including having the sliders hard anodized.  I will post pics when they are arrive.

Here is a pic of the forks:

Tubes check for straightness and polished
Sliders hard anodized
New bushings installed
Tweaked Race Tech emulators
Race Tech .46 springs
15 wt fork oil

She will be awaiting your return Johnny!  ;)
