Great racing in the pre 85 class with the 3 Mitchell boys on hot TT500's showing the 250 2 strokes up.
The 2 x "demonstrations" with Nic and Brodie Waters riding the TZ750 and XS750 Kenny Rogers replica's were a treat to watch.
The 450 class racing was excellent with Paul Caslick and the Waters boys having some epic battles, and it was great to see Olly Simpson (and brothers) riding as well.
All /in all a fantastic meeting and hopefully will be repeated next year.

Great news! Temora club ran a fantastic meeting last time, looking forward to going back again. (At least we get to use all those trials front tyres again that we had to buy in 2013!) Hopefully the date will be announced soon.

Tech Talk / Mossbarger reeds for 73/74 Honda CR250M
« on: November 06, 2014, 09:10:30 AM »
In 1974, Don Jones was selling a cast adaptor to fit Yamaha YZ reeds to Honda CR250M. This Cycle Guide article is undated but must be from 1974?

http://www.vintagefactory.com/JonesCR%203.jpg

Many other people welded up and machined CR250M cylinders to fit Yamaha reed blocks at the time.

Most peoples "understanding" seems to be that GEM, Mossbarger and Yamaha YZ are "Pre 75 legal" reeds for 73/74 CR250M models. Original GEM, Mossbarger and Jones adaptor kits are almost impossible to find now, but new replica Mossbarger kits are now available from DC plastics, and many have been fitted here in Australia on the understanding that they are Pre 75 legal.

It would be nice if we could confirm their legality ( or not ).

Does anyone have any magazine articles etc from 1974 to support the Mossbarger reeds case?

So where it says in part 24. Tyres "No knobbies allowed" does this mean only on the rear or is this Temora all over again?

Competition / Re: 2014 Australian Classic Motocross Titles for pre 78
« on: June 24, 2014, 03:35:31 PM »
Sorry to open a can of worms, but this highlights an area of confusion in the MOM's. There are several different interpretations used recently for rule 16A 16.1
SECTION 16A: AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
16.1 CATEGORIES FOR SENIOR AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Pre 75 Age Group Racing 125 - 250 - 263cc plus:
under 30
30 -39
40 - 49
50 - 59
60 - plus
70 - plus “super senior class”

Does this rule mean age group racing has to be run for each class separately? ( ie 125, 250 over 263)- as well as an all-ages 125, 250 and 263+ title?
Can you just run age group races as allpowers? ( ie Crystal Brook MX Nats). If so do you point score each age group separately?
Can you combine age classes if there are insufficient entries to make championship minimums  ( ie over 40 125, under 40 125; under 50 250, over 50 250 etc etc) - this happened at Griffith, Canberra DT nats, and not run all ages 125, 250 etc.
Do you run them all as per the book ( open and age group races for each capacity) and only award championship status to those with 10 entries ( ie Temora DT nats)

This has a huge impact on how many events the host club has to run over the 2 days, and how many rides an entrant can have per bike. For national titles where almost everbody has to travel long distances at considerable cost, this can impact the decision whether to enter or not for some riders. For host clubs it's very difficult to plan the program without knowing how many entries per class they are likely to receive. Back to back races is the other issue for older riders......can turn a fun weekend into a nightmare...

Obviously for DT you can fit a lot more events into 2 days, and perhaps the championship classes should be different between DT and MX.

What does everyone think? I believe the host club can rearrange the program (with MA approval) once entries are closed to provide the best outcome for everybody.

General Discussion / Re: 40 Years!
« on: February 19, 2014, 04:47:51 PM »
1974 was doing leaving ( now year 11) at high school, worked as a gardener, dump attendant and builders labourer in school holidays and weekends. Saved enough to buy my 2nd hand Elsinore CR125M in October, ( still got it). Used to take my 1 yo brother on the petrol tank on my track at home, if I did a nosedive over a jump and he hit his head on the crossbar I had to quickly ride a long way from the house so Mum couldn't hear him crying! Eventually padded the crossbar with hot water pipe insulation - much better. Used to try and read the whole of Dirt Bike and Motocross Action magazines at the newsagent - could never afford to buy them - and dreamed of being Marty Smith ( or Daryl Willoughby/Greg Cameron/Steve Rowlands/Danny Reilly/Tony Cook etc who were the gun Elsinore 125 riders in SA back then) . Started racing C grade in 75 while doing matriculation - not a good idea! Now race against my brother (and my son) all on identical CR125M's..now I can look like Marty Smith (without the hair!!!) and live the dream!

Tech Talk / How to recharge Works Performance shocks
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:57:42 PM »
How do you recharge the "new" Works Performance shocks that just have a plug in the body ( no schrader type valves)? Is there a needle type valve under the plug or do you need a special tool?

Yamaha / Re: MX 125 D model
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:04:33 PM »
There is one MX125C here in South Australia, the owner was racing it in DT/VMX but when he realised how rare it is he put it away as it's very nice. I never even knew they existed until I saw it. Freaky knows the owner.....
