Tech Talk / Re: So what is the story with lowering transfer ports?
« on: April 20, 2019, 03:21:58 PM »
I might be wrong but that would cause a lot of turbalance when going across the piston crown as transfer ducts are angled up to the combustion chamber to rid the c/chamber down of exhaust gas and charge the cylinder full of fresh air/fuel mix, sure you might drop a tad of piston crown temp but at a cost.maybe Lozza can chime in since he's more of a 2t specialist.

this is an interesting subject!so what happens if you introduce more air by say loosening a inlet manifold bolt/s?not that you would want that as a good way to stuff/dust a motor but to see what effect is has if any.are after market reed valves allow in the class your going to race it in?might be a way of calming down radical port timing.i remember old member Johney O say saying a reed valve kit helped his piston port cr250 which had an light switch power band

after gumming up the rings on my 79 cr250 with castrol r30 a mate with an it175 and an 2 valve jawa speedway bike said to use shell m so I used it on the cr and then later on my jawa 4 valve long tracker with no gumming or any other problems, also easy to clean off with degreaser

Vintage Track / Re: XT500, de rake? Better turning?

if you derake it youll need to lengthen or replace the swingarm for something longer.a klx swinger that's 1.5 inches longer goes in with not to much work and the distance from the pivit to shocks mounts is the same as the std xt swinger but youll need heavier springs/dampening

Yamaha / Re: Yam clutch spring specs- 90501-20122 & 90501-20124 ?
« on: March 03, 2019, 10:53:36 PM »
the rt1 being 360cc would be the stronger springs you would think.on my bombed out tt500 which had a few different cams in it over the years I used stock springs and never had any slip despite the shite it got often

xr400's came out in 95 maybe 96,klr250's are great farm bikes but lack decent suspension for anything serious and the front disc lacks stopping power but looks the part,tt250's watchout for the fibre oil pump drive which doesn't like heat (yam dealer here kept them in stock).if it was me id go for a xr600 again, plenty of suspension/powerfull front disc brake and all the power you'd ever need and easy to get more

Suzuki / Re: RM400 creeping clutch
« on: January 15, 2019, 01:51:03 AM »
has the sleve on the input shaft the clutch basket spins on been crushed by overtightening the nut?needle bearing that runs on the sleve ok?both will give creeping along with badly galled clutch basket fingersi. remember an  dr650 that you couldn't tighten the clutch hub nut to specs coz no clearance on the sleve/trust washers so just tighten till it started to grab and back off till it was free and use the lock tab to stop the nut from undoing.found a lot of suzukis like that

Tech Talk / Re: Exhaust port height on Piston-port 250 ?
« on: January 12, 2019, 12:35:58 AM »
I raised the exhaust port on my ts185a 1.5mm and it took a lot off the bottom end power to the point its just usable for puttering around my farm but great for circle work which is what I mainly use it for,i also cleaned up/dedagged the transfers and opened up the intake port to take a 32mm carb which yet to fit as it goes well on the std 26mm carb though I might try an er185 29mm oval bore carb Pokey said suck it and see if its suit your riding style, take a few different spockets with you to get the power in the sweet spot.
