From what i understand I do agree with John's idea. Basicaly by using a piece of hose you are lowering the point(by maybe a few milimeters) from which fuel is sucked into jet (avoiding foamy fuel near top) therefore no(or much less) air bubbles are present and mixture is more consistent. Bit like when you drink freshly poured glass of beer you burp lot more but when beer is flat you burp less :)

No that's a bladder for a remote reservoir, or piggy-back, shock. A gas bag was/is a version before DeCarbon style.

That i dont know. One I have is hard chromed(same as any shock shaft)12mm f7 tolerance and it is 20MnV6 material. It is also available in 14,15,16 and so on diameter.  What I am trying to say is that if you want to have period corect looking shocks or repair shocks where replacement parts are no longer available, this is an option. I have rebuild 2 pairs of old ohlins(new shafts) and a set of RM125 shocks(ohlins 12mm seal heads) and they work just fine. Most of the time what is damaged is shaft(hard chromed part is worn),seal head is leaking and teflon strip on the piston is worn.Shims etc is mostly ok and usable.
Isnt there a lot of vintage Betors, Marzocchis etc. with ohlins internals around just because people want to have a correct loking vintage bike? But some people just want  shock absorbers and thats fine  :) :)

A shock shaft is usually made from round hard chromed stock to any length you wish. Round hard chromed stock is used in hydraulics and can be purchased from place that repair or build hydraulic rams etc. I got 12mm thick 2m long piece for about 20 dollars. Than you only need a hacksaw and a lathe to make it to correct length. Also a seal head can be made from round aluminium stock. Bushing, o-rings and shaft seals can also be purchased from various place for a few dollars. Not everyone has 1200 dollars to buy a news set of shocks and some people like to use as much original parts as possible and have period correct bike. However some people just want to buy news set of shocks and thats it  :) :)

Alloy to alloy? Do they need a coating, like VHT copper coat, to seal?
No. Cylinder liner is cast iron. Liner is pressed in aluminium cylinder and there is a flange on top of the liner. Cylinder head has a recess and thats it. There is 4 M6 studs holding it together. Shops are selling aliminium washer like gasket but from factory there was nothing. I do not thing that anyone at the factory bothered laping it together or anything like that  :)

Some engines dont use head gasket at all. For example my Jawa 50cm3 (Jawa 21 Special) has no head gasket and i never had any leaks(compresion ratio is 9.5 to 1 and have 3 piston rings)  :)

and if you can not get magnesium tig rods or thing the shipping is too expensive for a couple of them to fix you holed magnesium clutch cover. you can get a magnesium anode rod( 99% magnesium) from a local hot water system supplier an use it in place of tig wire. It is a touch thicker but it worked really well for me  :) :)

Some sad stories here. But i guess if you are investing thousands in a bike and so on you should not try to save a couple of dollars on purchasing something like motorcycle based on what you see on a couple of photographs.I paid cash for me bike when I picked it up. Also it only may cost you less than hundered dollars to send money using paypal. If someone disagree with paypal than there may be something fishy. Never had any issues with paypal even when purchased items did not arrived. Also using a bank transfer gives you something in case you get tricked. Police can track bank accounts and so on. When someone ask you to use wire transfer than there may be something fishy again. Being a bit smart cost nothing and those stealing bastards get shit :D
