Tech Talk / Advice needed
« on: April 13, 2013, 05:40:48 PM »
I have just fitted a new mikuni carburetor to my RM 400 and when I twist the throttle I have about half the amount of rotation then previous I had before. I noticed where the throttle cable goes into the carby slide is on the edge not in the middle like the stock slide. Would that make any difference?? Otherwise maybe the stock accelerator cable is not suitable  ???

Thanks

Tech Talk / Re: Air intake boot

The bike is a 1980 RM 400. I used my wifes hairdryer and got the boot on the carby, but needs to go on a bit more as the new carby is a fraction longer. Will keep trying though. Thanks for the replies

It was only a few mm to small. I put the boot in hot water and I think it has shrunk even more :-[ I might try some rubber friendly grease. Thanks

I purchased a new mikuni carburetor but the air intake boot is to small to go over the carb. Is there any aftermarket manufacturers out there? Or any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tech Talk / Re: How to remove needle jet from carb
« on: March 23, 2013, 03:52:39 PM »
Thanks guys, needle jet has now been removed.

Just another question. I've got a new minuki carburetor to put on the bike. Do I need to change the float arm height?? According to the carb info it is set at 18mm, in the manual for the bike it says 13.9mm.

Thanks for the info guys.

Brett- I won't be racing the bike, just riding the bike for fun. I would call myself an intermediate rider.

I'm after a new carby for a RM 400T. In the manual is says that the carby is a Mikuni VM36SS. I found a VM36 carby on the vmx unlimited site and I assuming this would be the same one??

I turned out the pilot jet and it started second kit. It ran for about 30 seconds and just died, could get it started again. Fuel was leaking from the overflow so maybe it's getting flooded. I pulled the carby out and took the bowl off and noticed the one of the float pins is bent so I will replace them and the float arm and go from there.
Thanks again for the suggestions

« on: March 10, 2013, 04:20:38 PM »
Anyone know of a carb kit for a RM 400T? I need some new floats so I thought I would be able to get  some kind of kit?? Or do I just go genuine if the parts are still available?

Thanks

General Discussion / 2 stroke oil
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:00:19 PM »
What type of 2 stroke oil are you guys running in your bikes. I bought some motul 800 but have read that people seem to foul alot of plugs. Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for the replies. It's got spark and I know fuel is getting to the carby bowl. After kicking it over a few times I took the spark plug out and was completely dry, even after holding the throttle open. Ill do the things you have suggested and see what happens.
