CZ / Re: side pipe crank
« on: June 12, 2019, 07:19:30 PM »
I had to have my sidepipe crank built up as well. This is what a correctly repaired bearing surface looks like after building the shaft up with hard chrome then grinding back to correct diameter. This should be a permanent fix that is harder than the original shaft

I use 1 of their systems in my CZ & plan to buy another for the sidepipe when it's close to completion.
Been very happy with it, the flywheels are nicely made & plated, much prefer the smooth finish on the inside than the stuck on magnets of some others systems

Bought the set of taper roller steering head bearings in my CZ from their UK store years ago, having the bearings listed by sizing is great. Trying to work out out the seals to fit is a bit harder though
Much better company than what I've heard of pyramid parts

General Discussion / Re: Insurance for US
« on: March 14, 2019, 08:28:40 PM »
The insurance I need is medical incase something was to go wrong. The second motocross is mentioned things get either very expensive or we don't have a policy that will cover you
I contacted ridersurance in the states who specialize in finding coverage for racers but they are only able to do annual policies where I'm only there for 1 weekend of racing

General Discussion / Insurance for US
« on: March 13, 2019, 07:38:20 PM »
I'm heading over to the Don Matthews CZ World Championship in California next month & need to sort insurance for when I'm racing.
The only place here in New Zealand that provide cover is AON, now for the scary part, they want $1500nz for the day & a half coverage which is roughly half the cost of the airfares
Any suggestions of who to try for something a bit more managable

CZ / Re: Sidepipe rear subframe

Unfortunately the points cam is badly pitted & would chew out the fibre block in no time. I'm probably going to use Electrexworld's twin plug ignition & the JOK head

Most of the extreme enduro guys have been high level trials riders, think Kevin Schwantz was Texas champion before taking up road racing

This code was uploaded on 1 of the american based CZ facebook pages, should be something that a paint mixer can use easily as it gives the various amounts to use

My bike is the yellow 70 model which I haven't seen the code for, at the moment I haven't decided on whether to leave it this colour or try & pick up a second tank & have an orange tank as well

Tech Talk / Re: Are there any good mods for Yam DT2 forks?
« on: December 29, 2018, 05:06:16 PM »
Cartridge emulators are available. I run Race Tech gold valves in a set of TY250 forks which like the DT2, have 34mm Kayaba fork tubes. The gold valves took ages to get set up but are quite good now.
On another trials bike with TY250 forks I have fitted aftermarket (modern) damper rods made in the UK which worked great without any setting up required. They are made of aluminium, have slightly more travel than standard (about 5mm extra) and most importantly have much better damping action than the standard damper rods provide.
I'm sure either of those methods would also make DT2 forks work better for MX.

These will be the parts, I have the full set up in my TY250 & the difference to how the forks were is huge

Thanks Dave :-)  Any idea what company in the UK made the damping rods? l'd like to get some.

General Discussion / Re: Pressing out swing arm axle
« on: December 08, 2018, 03:13:59 PM »
Wish that would work, my pivot is the proper sidepipe type with a head rather than a bolt in from both ends. Have been considering ordering a new engine mount from etovar.cz & cutting the original mount up

What was the swingarm out of? I'm figuring my sidepipe is going to end up like that although the engine mount won't be the only place it's seized
