General Discussion / Re: RIP Eric Geboers
« on: May 08, 2018, 07:16:52 AM »
From Racer X website.......

We woke up to reports that multi-time FIM Motocross World Champion and all-time great Eric Geboers, 55, is missing following a boating mishap near Mol, Belgium. Geboers, the first rider to win FIM world titles in all three divisions in the eighties—125cc 250cc, 500cc—reportedly jumped from a boat into a cold lake after a dog that was on the boat jumped overboard. Geboers went under the surface and has not been seen since. Police and rescue personnel searched the lake throughout the night and continued the search today, with no sign of the man. Police are afraid that Geboers drowned in the cold water.

Geboers turned pro in 1980 and won his first two titles in 1982 and ’83 in the 125cc class aboard a Suzuki. In 1987, he won the 250cc World Championship for Honda. The following year, still with Honda, he won his first of two FIM 500cc World Championships. His last world crown came in 1990 in the 500cc class, and the last round that year was held at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. It was the last Grand Prix he would ever enter, and Geboers won.

After his pro motocross career, Geboers did a variety of things, including racing endurance cars, promoting races, and running the Suzuki factory motocross team in Europe along with his older brother Sylvain.

All told, Geboers won five FIM World Championships and 39 Grand Prix races: 18 in the 125cc class, five in the 250cc class, 16 in the 500cc division. He must be considered one of the most versatile Grand Prix racers of all time.

[UPDATE]
Dutch website Infoglitz.com is reporting that police have found the body of Geboers. He was 55.

Husqvarna / Re: 1982 Husky 430 minimum piston ring gap?
« on: January 16, 2018, 07:06:59 AM »
You are correct. 4 to 5 thou inch per inch of bore is fine. Use a piston to make sure ring sits square to the bike when measuring the gap. Measure 0.5 inch down from top of bore in running area of the ring. If bore is new then can measure where Husky manuals shows. If gap is too tight the bike can nip up due to ring seizure. Has happened to my Husky 500 and was easily fixed.

No need to heat treat a fork tube of course.

I watched it live on the international livestream subscription available from supercrosslive.tv Great to not have to wait until someone posts the races on You Tube. Also great to see Chad Reed still in action at a high level looking like a privateer! Really love the Supercross and was lucky enough attend to Daytona race in 2015. If you can ever get to an event then don’t miss the chance.

Big K is correct. The Timkens are what Husky uses. I have fitted many a set to my restorations. They fit.

Husqvarna / Re: WR400 ignition timing

The WR is likely to have the SEM ignition. Swedish Electrical Mystery.

17 degrees BTDC sounds right.

Yes no advance as Tony said. Static timing.

Bugger , this could have been a worthwhile thread . How much to pay for the right to use the photo bucket ?
The Photobucket app says $399.99 per year to host photos for third party websites. Very expensive.

Pull the pipe off and kick it over or push it with no plug. Will probably get lots of raw fuel out. Been there and done that!

General Discussion / Re: Pre90 RMX250 which years eligible?
« on: June 04, 2017, 08:09:29 PM »
1989 only unless you have written evidence to submit to MA to apply for a follow on year to be made eligible due to lack of model changes. Don't expect anyone has bothered to do this with an enduro bike for VMX yet. Perhaps your local club will be sympathetic. Good luck.

Not sure what half filling achieves? I would be concerned about uneven absorption of fuel or uneven drying out. A complete fill would be better surely ????
