General Discussion / MX Spectator
« on: April 15, 2025, 10:57:40 am »
Haven't been on here for a long long time.

Went down to Appin on the weekend to watch round 2 of the Pro MX series.

Sitting amongst the large crowd of spectators it occurred to me that it's been 50 years since I first went to Amaroo Park to watch the MR Motocross series.

Thats a long time and I still reckon it's the best sport in the world.

General Discussion / DT 200R Piston question
« on: July 01, 2020, 02:00:28 pm »
I'm helping a friend rebuild a 1990 Yamaha DT 200R.
It has a case reed engine, so the stock piston has no windows in the intake side.
The replacement aftermarket piston he has lists as being suitable for a 200 blaster (air cooled) and a DT 200R (water cooled). This piston has intake windows.
Want to make sure it will work before going down the path of rebore etc.
Any advice or suggestions?

Tech Talk / 2 stroke vs 4 stroke big end size
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:15:23 pm »
Maybe a silly question, but why do 4 strokes have much larger big ends/crank pins than equivalent capacity/horsepower 2 stroke big end. I think Husky's might be the exception.

74-77 OEM rods/kits are hard to come by, anyone know of an alternative that doesn't require too much machining to fit ?

Suzuki / RM 125 pipe at MCA Auburn Sydney

Wandering around MCA today and this caught my eye. Maybe of use to someone. Header looked a bit small for a 125, so maybe for an 80cc? I have no idea.

Tech Talk / Reclaiming flogged out Honda cam bores

Here's how this guy has done it on an XR 75, same principle for all Hondas that have cams running directly in the head.
Have a look at the picture in his add.

General Discussion / Old dogs new tricks

Occasionally I get to ride on a "modern" track (Mt kembla, Appin Louee ) and most of the young guns seem to whip over most of the larger jumps and make it look easy. I'm still not too afraid to hit jumps at speed but for the life of me can't get anywhere near what might be even the slightest whip to happen, instead I seem to default to the classic cross up style. I've watched other riders, videos and read about how to whip, but just can't get it. Tried it on modern bikes and old bikes. At 53 I'm probably to old to be reprogrammed and will just have to be content with being a gumby.
