Tech Talk / DT/YZ gearbox
« on: June 13, 2022, 06:06:09 PM »
Can anyone tell me for how many years/models Yamaha used the original DT box? I know the ratios will be different but we need a gearbox to fit in a Champion framed DT1/2 engine case. Eventually the bike starting jumping out of second gear and upon splitting the whole gearbox isn't good.

Yamaha / DT2 gearbox cross compatability

My mates gearbox is toast. Anyone know how far forward Yamaha use the same gearbox? Obviously the ratios would be different. It just needs to fit

Yamaha / DTI GYT internal rotor points gap
« on: September 29, 2021, 04:21:41 AM »
Just returned from about as far in the North of England as one can go; having done an excellent Vinduro near Wooler Northumberland. I was on my MK4 DMS TT500 and Simon rode his Champion framed DT1/2MX Special. He and it had an excellent first day but it wouldn't run well the second, and anyway he crashed and blew the Husky forks oil seal turning it  into a pogo stick.
We got it running fine today by gapping the points to 8 thou", but what's the Yamaha setting? Any more than 8 and it wouldn't even spark.

Honda / XL185 ignition check
« on: September 05, 2013, 08:08:21 AM »
I've got a XL185 in an Ossa frame
The ignition has packed
I've used a multimeter and to the best of my meagre ability I think all the ignition components are ok, which leaves the charging coil. Can I just check using a battery to charge the ignition and if so what voltage?

Wanted / Old type supertrapp
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:09:52 PM »
I need a single taper early supertrapp; 4" disc type, single bolt end plate, steel body, 1 and 1/2 to 1 and 3/4 exhaust. Even if it's rusting away  I can at least get it copied. Anything considered.

Yamaha / TT500 exhaust length
« on: April 17, 2013, 04:40:44 AM »
I'm trying to put My Mann mark 4 framed TT500 back to something close to it's original spec [free Simons forks anyone?]. The front pipe looks original and I have a supertrapp to be grafted on. I have a 1and 5/8" pipe . Does anyone know the length?

Kawasaki / KLX 250 missing bits
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:06:51 AM »
I've checked and rechecked the parts manual and online fiches and can't find any mention of the ignitor box interface cage to the frame. My running bike's has got it and I need it for the other bike. I also need a sump strap , headlamp  etc etc but that first hasn't even got a diagram. Anyone got a spare or a part number?

Husqvarna / ITC shocks
« on: August 23, 2011, 07:12:17 AM »
I have a set of late Husky shocks, about 18.5". I bought them from ebay after being told they had 5.5" of travel but they don't. However they have good shafts and I have to decide whether to get them serviced and sell them on, or modify them for a KLX.
Two questions
Can the shocks be modified for more travel?
Can the ally swing arm mounts be unscrewed and be replaced with short mounts
The KLX springs will go straight on and original KLX shocks seem about a 15mm shorter with 5.9" of travel

Kawasaki / KLX 250 roller bearing head
« on: April 29, 2011, 01:37:30 AM »
I've just discovered my spare engine has a roller bearing head. Were these standard towards the end of the production run and is the power any different?

Yamaha / TT500 rear wheel
« on: January 03, 2011, 10:48:30 PM »
I've just acquired [at considerable expense] a 1981 Dick Mann Mark 4 yamaha 500
It's in sound race nick, not concours.
It has an XT rear wheel and I'd like to get a lighter TT one
Does anyone know if the two use the same spindle and sprocket, and also what the TT part number is and if this wheel was used in anything else?
cheers
Jez
