Suzuki / PE175Z Swing arm pivot thread
« on: August 01, 2018, 10:29:33 AM »
Hi all, my search has not turned up any useful information, can someone here (Leith?) tell me the swing arm pivot bolt thread? It's a 14mm shaft but is it 1.00, 1.25 or 1.5 mm thread pitch?
I'm asking for a friend who is interstate, otherwise I could measure it myself.

KTM / Wanted, 86 250 fuel tank
« on: October 19, 2017, 08:40:16 AM »
Hi all, a good friend is looking for a good standard tank for his 1986 KTM 250 GS? MXC? not sure of the correct model designation, he has a clarke tank on his bike now but prefers the original, he's happy to buy one or maybe a swap or similar for someone?

Located in Canberra but let me know what you have and I'll pass it on.

Tech Talk / Piston to transfer port matching.
« on: March 14, 2017, 06:52:55 AM »
I hope someone here can help with some expert advice.

While assembling my 1988 Husqvarna 250WR, I cleaned up the case to transfer port transition, but when I slide the piston into the cylinder it seems to have an excessive amount of piston skirt protruding into the transfer port area in the sleeve opening.

Is this something that I could benefit from by matching the two?

It just looks wrong. I know the piston spends very little time at BDC but it is counter intuitive to a smooth flow through the transfers.

Wanted / TS250X gearbox parts
« on: December 11, 2016, 12:07:46 PM »
Hi all, a good friend is looking for a set of gears or even a whole bottom end (not interested in crank, clutch etc) for his '86 model TS250X.
I opened up his cases to find a burned up selector fork and rounded gear dogs on the output shaft, so just these parts would get him out of trouble.
Either PM me here or email me at tonybrown.308@gmail.com.

Wanted / FOUND! '87 onwards Husky 400 430 or 500 engine cases NSW
« on: March 14, 2016, 07:37:08 PM »
Does anyone have a left crank case or a pair of case halves for a 87 onwards Husky 400/430/500 that they would be happy to sell?
My Vinduro project has hit a wall without them. The steel sleeves that the swing arm bolt goes through, have been flogged out due to a lack of maintenance by a previous owner, I still may have mine repaired down the track but would prefer a good set of cases so that I know it is a permanent fix.

'84-86 models will work but I would prefer the correct ones with the additional threaded hole near the kickstarter.

Shoey, good meeting you yesterday, if you have a case/pair please pm me.
I'm located in Michelago NSW.

Hi all, before I go down the "get it welded" route, does anyone here have a swingarm in good nick for a PE175 1982-1984 that they would part with?

Suzuki / Early PE175 crankshaft NOS $100 Negotiable
« on: November 05, 2015, 02:24:08 PM »
Hi all, came across this today while looking for 175Z parts, sadly it won't fit my bike. If it did, for that price I would buy it just to have as a spare!
I don't know the seller, no affiliation at all. Thought it may be needed by someone here.
Suzuki 12200-41501 googles as fitting 1978 and 1979 PE175.

Husqvarna / '88 400WRLC intro
« on: October 09, 2015, 10:36:50 AM »
Hi all, around 3 months ago I acquired a 1988 400WR in non running condition. The previous owner (personal friend) provided receipts for $2000 in engine work so I wasn't too concerned, and a look up the exhaust port did show a brand new piston, so the task began.
I think the only reason I ended up with it was because he was concerned that he may have needed to split the cases to rectify a gear shifting issue, despite my offers to do it for him.

Well that turned out to be a very simple fix, once the clutch cover came off, I noticed the return spring had been dislodged, easy.
What that also uncovered was the damage to the clutch basket, there is another topic here (http://forum.ozvmx.com/index.php?topic=38686.msg373315#msg373315) about that so no need to repeat myself.

It took almost two months to find the clutch basket and it's now installed.

So the next step was having a good hard look at the bike to see what other surprises were in store.

I already knew the Ohlins shock needed a rebuild, so in to Suspension Smith in Canberra on Thursday morning, picked it up on Friday arvo, $220 including a new bump rubber, very reasonable I thought.

First up was the front brakes, not working at all, Magura master cylinder with Brembo caliper, after searching the interwebs I could find no conclusive info regarding a m/cyl kit or even a decent s/h m/cyl, then when removing the caliper, I found that the lower caliper bolt/pin is stripped.
After an hour or so with some aluminium plate on my mill, I'd made a caliper adapter and fitted a DRZ400 front wheel, axle and brakes until I can sort out the m/cyl and thread in the fork lower, are they magnesium?

The original exhaust was a bit beat up, so I bought a s/h "Uptite Racing" expansion chamber from Fleabay USA, which I'm told is the hot ticket for these engines.
It needs some "massaging" too, but I don't think it will need too much to have it looking like it belongs.

The PO had already done a fair bit of work, frame painted, seat rec0vered, two new tyres, new handlebars and levers (not Magura) so the list was noowhere near as long as it could have been.

After checking that my SEM ignition actually still produced a spark, a new plug, remove the treacle from the fuel tank, checked ignition timing, cleaned the gum out of the carb, two hearty kicks had it running like a champion, it even idles which surprised me.

Being dark I wasn't able to give it test ride, so I will wait until I do before I make any rash predictions!

I will be ordering some plastics and decal set for it and it should look great.

My plan with this bike is to use it in next years Vinduro events run by VTR, so I now have the summer to fettle the old girl and make sure it's as reliable as it can be.
Having previously owned an '86 400WR, my expectations are realistic, other than the rose coloured glasses when remembering my old bike. It really was a great bike though, great engine, great suspension, mediocre front disc brake, steered well and never let me down, not once.

Fingers crossed, hopefully is gets easier from here.....

Day one, just unloaded.

It was a bit dusty, but lots had been spent already, pitson, rings, conrod, mains, gearbox bearings, aluminium clutch cover instead of the old magnesium one.

Old clutch basket, damaged all the way around the ring gear.

Secondhand clutch in very good condition.

Caliper conversion, still needs a tidy up but it works, probably even a fair bit better than the original!

Maico / 1979 Maico MC250 MagnumII for sale NSW Pics added.
« on: May 26, 2014, 09:01:12 PM »
Hi all, the time has come to let someone else enjoy this bike since I haven't had the time to ride it for a couple of years.
It is a 1979 MagnumII MC250, the motor is strong and runs well, it has a brand new 36mm Mikuni, near new Metzeler tyre on the front and near new Dunlop on the rear, shocks rebuilt by radar Cullen, powdercoated frame, new paint/decals on the tank, all plastics were replaced with Rage Racing replicas, billet case saver, KTM250 kick starter, Magura controls. All plastics are included but are not shown on the bike.
$4250 or reasonable offer. Price drop, now $4000

I will add some pics over the next couple of days, being at home in daylight hours is a bit of a rarity these days.
This was going to be a Frankenbike, and I have a 490 engine with Wheelsmith barrel, new conrod, gaskets, new unused pipe, while this is not included in the price of the bike, I will entertain sensible offers.
