Just in the end stages of a resto on an AJS Stormer; my question is - these things did not leave the factory with a kill switch so need to add one so my plan is to splice to the negative on the coil a single wire to run to a button. Am I on the right track? - is grounding the neg the right way to put a kill switch on this thing. (points and mag)

Tech Talk / what am I doing wrong 74 kx250

Help!
I have a 74 KX250, ground up resto and I just cant get a decent spark. While the bike runs it runs like crap and I think its due to really weak spark.
So far I have swapped out all electrical from a bike that runs well - including the carby just to be sure. Problem remains
Could it be that the rotor has de-magnetised? Its the only bit that I haven't changed out. Spent half a day yesterday trying to figure it out - any pearls of wisdom out there - what have I missed?

on the way to the nationals I found an American Eagle engine and tank - Sprite?
The engine is around 400cc at a guess, sand cast and really interesting (its in the car...)
does anyone have any info in these things? I think this is the same engine as the Alron 400 but not sure - any clues?

Not VMX but my guess is if you have a VMX bike you have something like my 85 GPZ750
The issue I have is the speedo - works great for about 20k then speeds up to something like 160 when I am in traffic at 100 and basically is all over the shop from there. Any clues what's going on? The cable is - well looks in good condition - I'm snookered, any ideas?

Trail & Track / QMP - the worst trail ride you can ever have

went to QMP Sunday last week and have to say that the trails there are singularly the worst I have ever ridden on in my 40 years riding dirt bikes.
To the parks credit the MX tracks are first class, the management of them excellent but if your looking for a quiet Sunday ride then forget the trails; rocks, tree stumps, impassable up hill crap all tied together with dust
MX for sure - trails forget it

I have a TM125 74 bike for sale for resto - 100% there runner and original unmolested example. Will need some work but if your looking for an absolutely original machine then is is as good a start you will ever see, still with original bars and has a set of HEX grips from about 75 on it.

For Sale / MX250B

I have a mint un molested MX250B for sale. Bike is original and there will be no better example available. This bike has never had the head off and is the bike that Steve Gall rode in recent CD at Conondale as well as displayed at the Sydney Motor show some years back.
Bike runs beautifully, has renthal bars and non stock tyres but is otherwise as it left the factory - fish oil in the forks and all.

Just thought I would offer a timely update on the mighty Ex Roy East AJS that blew its self to smithereens at the 2012 Nationals. Well its almost done after a few false starts, the engine is all but and resplendent with the right piston this time not some piece of crap JP number.
About all that will be different will be the crank case numbers, the barrel has been repaired and the head was fine, the ding in the frame is fixed where the rod wanted to leave a mark and the piston (or what's left of it) resides in Shane Frasers man cave on the sloping ground of Tasmania (he knows what I mean :)
Should make it onto dirt in a couple of months ready for the 2016 season

Have my 74 KX250 - the 10 year project that is all but done, but.....
the bike runs well in once up in the revs but like crap off idle, not fully loading up but feels really rich down low - so I think I have a jetting issue and reduce the pilot from a 45 to a 35, no difference noted, so I take a carb of my 76 and the same problem is noted - works perfect on the 76KX.
Motor is new everything - Im thinking ignition but before I start pulling stuff off and testing anyone got any ideas - sometimes the really obvious you cant see when you looking hard......

Tech Talk / GTMX80 Electrical question

Have 1978 GTMX80, motor runs, starts first kick but will not run past 1/3rd throttle without the motor feeling like the main seals have blown; wont rev out. Rebuilt the motor, new bearings and seals but now suspect it is electrical.
any clues?
Not sure if its the stator, condenser but they are the next suspects......
